Giles
Al Ahli (Premier League) added to their roster 31-year old American center Chester Giles (211-109kg-85, college: Oregon State). He started the season at Westchester Knicks (D-League) in the U.S.. But in four games he recorded just 0.3ppg and 2.0rpg this season. The last summer Giles was tested by Shaanxi (NBL) in Chinese league. In 5 games he averaged 8.2ppg, 7.6rpg, 1.0spg and 2.6bpg. Part of last (14-15) season he spent at Sitra Club. Giles also spent pre-season at Texas Legends in D-League earlier that year. Part of previous (13-14) season he spent at Al Muharraq. He helped them to win the regular season and make it to the final. A very spectacular season in his career as he was selected Asia-Basket.com All-Bahrain League Defensive Player of the Year, Center of the Year and voted to 1st Team. Giles was also tried-out by Amchit Club (Division 4) in Lebanese league earlier that season.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others he won Bahrain League championship title in 2012. Giles was also voted Asia-Basket.com All-Lebanese League Player of the Year back in 2010. He represented USA at the Asian Championships in Manila (Philippines) three years ago. His stats at that event were 2 games: 12.5ppg, 13.0rpg, 3.0bpg.
Giles is quite experienced player. He has played also professionally in Iraq (Duhok), Iran, Saudi Arabia, D-League (Sioux Falls Skyforce and Los Angeles D-Fenders), Lebanon (Al Riyadi) and Philippines (Smart Gilas).
Giles attended Oregon State until 2008 and it is his eighth season as a professional player.
On Giles: Excellent physical attributes, starting with a 7'4" wingspan and an excellent frame which he has clearly worked on over the course of his college career. On defense, Giles has a rare combination of timing, athleticism, and length that makes him a potentially great shot-blocker.
