Egypt top Morocco to capture Gold - Jan 8, 2017

Egypt claimed the title at the championship. The hosts came from behind to beat Morocco for the trophy. Amr El Gendy (192-G-91) nailed 18 points to lead the champions. Morocco got to a furious start. They sank 32 points in the first period to take an 11-point lead. But Egypt slowly turned things around. The hosts pulled within 9 points at halftime 42:51. Egypt unloaded 31 points in the third term to surge ahead for a narrow 3-point lead. Egypt continued to put pressure on the visitors in the fourth term. Egypt boosted the lead and protected it late in regulation to seal the victory. Motaz Okasha (186-PG-90) and Ramy Ibrahim (205-F/C-88) delivered 14 points each in the win. Abdelhakim Zouita (200-F-86) responded with 20 points for Morocco. John Wilkins (207-F/C-89, college: Illinois St., agency: Promotex) had 16 points and 8 boards in the loss.

Saudi Arabia - Bahrain 69-79
Bahrain claimed the Bronze medals at the Arab Nations Cup. They topped Saudi Arabia in the consolation final. Mohammed Qurban (187-F-87) stepped up with 17 points to lead the winners. Bahrain accumulated a 52:38 halftime lead. Saudi Arabia narrowed the deficit in the second half but could not avoid the loss at the end. Malcolm White (205-C/F-88, college: LSU) provided 16 points and 8 rebounds in the victory. Nassir Abojalas (194-F-94) responded with 19 points for Saudi Arabia.

Bahrain - Egypt 56-89
Egypt knocked down Bahrain to reach the title game at the championship. The hosts dominated from start to finish in this one. Egypt secured a comfortable 49:33 halftime lead and never looked back en route to the victory. Motaz Okasha (186-PG-90) came up with 12 points to pace the effort. Hussain Al-Tawash (174-G-86) responded with 14 points for Bahrain.

Saudi Arabia - Morocco 71-81
Morocco claimed the Final birth as they topped Saudi Arabia in the semifinal clash. Abderrahim Najah (198-F/C-84) scored 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in the victory. Morocco jumped to a 23:14 lead after ten minutes. Saudi Arabia erased the deficit in the second term. They tied things up at 38. However Morocco used a 24:13 rally in the third term to regain the lead. Morocco protected the advantage throughout the fourth quarter and raced to the win. Abdelhakim Zouita (200-F-86) netted 12 points for the winners. Mathna Almarwani (184-C-92) responded with 15 points for Saudi Arabia.




Saudi Arabia and Bahrain earn semifinal appearance - Jan 6, 2017

Saudi Arabia - United Arab Emirates 68-63
Saudi Arabia made it into semifinal stage in Egypt. They topped the United Arab Emirates tonight. Nassir Abojalas (194-F-94) stepped up with 15 points for the winners. Saudi Arabia accounted for a comfortable 23:8 lead ten minutes into the game. The UAE narrowed the gap at 9-point mark at the final break. They pulled even closer in the fourth stanza but could not avoid the loss. Mathna Almarwani (184-C-92) deposited 11 points and 9 rebounds in the victory. Qais Alshabebi (200-C-91) responded with 21 points and 9 boards for the UAE.

Bahrain - Algeria 76-63
Bahrain sealed their semifinal tickets at the Arab Nations Cup. They beat Algeria to stay in the title chase. Hassan Naorooz (F) came up with 17 points to lead the winners. Algeria eked out a 36:35 halftime lead. But Bahrain used a 21:12 run in the third term to surge ahead. They added 20 points in the fourth period to ice the win. Malcolm White (205-C/F-88, college: LSU) and Mohammed Qurban (187-F-87) accounted for 11 points each for the winners. Mohamed Guermat (180-PG-93) responded with 17 points for Algeria.

Saudi Arabia - Egypt 50-73
Egypt trounced Saudi Arabia to finish the preliminary round in the second place. Amr El Gendy (192-G-91) scored 24 points to lead the winners. The hosts jumped to a 17:4 lead after ten minutes. Saudi Arabia picked up the tempo in the next two periods. They pulled within 8 points at the final break. But Egypt ignited a 23:8 run in the fourth term to seal the victory. Moustafa Almekawy (204-F/C-94) delivered 12 points for the winners. Marzouq Almuwallad (180-PG-92) replied with 13 points for Saudi Arabia.

Algeria - Bahrain 71-82
Bahrain improved at 2-3 record in the ladder as they beat Algeria today. Mohamed Alderazi (194-F/G-80) came up with 21 points to lead the winners. Algeria jumped to a 37:31 halftime advantage. But Bahrain used a strong 31:16 fourth quarter to snatch the victory. Malcolm White (205-C/F-88, college: LSU) stepped up with 17 points and 21 rebounds for the winners. Anis Fedala (G) and Oussama Aggoun (F-94) responded with 15 points each for Algeria.

United Arab Emirates - Morocco 52-106
Morocco claimed the fifth straight win at the championship. Yacine Yacine (196-F/G-89, agency: Promotex) and John Wilkins (207-F/C-89, college: Illinois St., agency: Promotex) provided 20 points each to lead them past the United Arab Emirates. Morocco built a 54:32 halftime lead. They held the UAE to just 20 points in the second half and cruised to the victory. Mohamed Choua (202-F/C-92) recorded 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Salem Suwais (180-F-98) responded with 13 points for the UAE.




Morocco stay undefeated in Egypt - Jan 3, 2017

Egypt - Algeria 73-56
Egypt improved at 3-1 record following a comfortable win over Algeria. Mostafa Meshaal (200-F-86) came up with 15 points for the hosts. Egypt built a 31:27 halftime lead. They followed with a 21:13 run in the third term to clear off for good. Omar Tarek (218-C-91) chipped in 14 points and grabbed 11 boards for the hosts. Rabah Zitoun (C) responded with 13 points for Algeria.

United Arab Emirates - Saudi Arabia 72-70
United Arab Emirates nipped Saudi Arabia to claim the second victory at the championship. Qais Alshabebi (200-C-91) provided 25 points and 7 rebounds for the UAE. They sank 30 points in the second frame to secure a 13-point halftime lead. Saudi Arabia went on a determined comeback rally in the second half but stopped just short of win at the end. Mohamed Elagmany netted 12 points in the victory. Marzouq Almuwallad (180-PG-92) responded with 18 points and 7 rebounds for Saudi Arabia.

Morocco - Bahrain 73-57
Morocco recorded the fourth straight victory in Egypt. They topped Bahrain to remain undefeated. Kourdou Soufiane (211-C-85) scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the winners. Bahrain grabbed an 18:11 lead after ten minutes. But Morocco stepped on the gas in the second half. They ignited a 46:27 rally to seal the victory. Adil El Makssoud (193-G/F-85) netted 12 points, issued 6 assists and grabbed 6 rebounds for the winners. Mohamed Alderazi (194-F/G-80) responded with 10 points for Bahrain.

Egypt - United Arab Emirates 86-64
Egypt overcame the UAE to improve at 2-1 record at the tournament. Omar Tarek (218-C-91) stepped up with 18 points and 12 rebounds for the hosts. Egypt built a 41:29 halftime lead. Egypt extended the margin at 21-point mark at the final intermission and never looked back en route to the victory. Mostafa Meshaal (200-F-86) knocked down 16 points in the win. Salem Suwais (180-F-98) and Omar Alamry (200-F-91) replied with 11 points each for the UAE.

Bahrain - Saudi Arabia 99-102 OT
Saudi Arabia outlasted Bahrain in overtime en route to the second win in Egypt. Nassir Abojalas (194-F-94) came up with 28 points and 11 rebounds to lead the winners. Bahrain eked out a 35:32 halftime lead. But Saudi Arabia erased the deficit in the second half and forced overtime. The teams needed two overtimes to decide on the winners. Saudi Arabia managed to pull away with the tough win at the end. Ahmed Almukhtar (191-F-93) and Mohammed Alsuwallem chipped in 13 points each for the winners. Hassan Naorooz responded with 20 points for Bahrain.

Algeria - Morocco 71-89
Morocco fired past Algeria to improve at 3-0 record at the tournament. Kourdou Soufiane (211-C-85) scored 22 points to lead the winners. Morocco secured a 23:11 lead ten minutes into the game. They unloaded 52 points in the second half and rallied to the victory. Zakaria El Mashbahi tossed in 18 points in the win. Oussama Aggoun (F-94) responded with 17 points for Algeria.

Morocco and United Arab Emirates post wins in Day 2 of the 22nd Emirates Airlines Men's Basketball Championship for Arab teams. Morocco overcame Saudi Arabia 70-64. Morocco led 2 pints at the half-time and added a 22-17 rally in the third period. Kourdou Soufiane (211-C-85) and Abderrahim Najah (198-F/C-84) top-scored for the winners with 18 points each. Mathna Almarwani (184-C-92) ended up with 14 points in the losing effort.
United Arab Emirates meanwhile beat Algeria 77-74. Qais Alshabibi stepped up with 27 points and 14 boards, while Khalifa Salem scored 20. Omar Belliche (204-F/C-92) produced 14 points in a loss.

Egypt overcame Bahrain 74-68 at the 22nd Emirates Airlines Men's Basketball Championship for Arab teams. The hosts of the event grabbed a 13-10 lead after 10 minutes of the game and added a 26-20 rally in the second frame. Both teams posted 21 points each in the third quarter, while Bahrain replied with 17-14 run in the last stanza, but could not seal the win.
Amr Sherif (192-G-91) top-scored for the winners with 21 points and Ramy Ibrahim (205-F/C-88) notched 18. Hassan Norouz ended up with 15 points in a loss. Malcolm Anthoni scored 13, whilst Mohamed Alderazi (194-F/G-80) delivered 12.
