HK Eastern - Zamboanga 65-71 Very important is a home loss of third ranked Hong Kong HK Eastern (8-4) against fifth ranked Filipino Valientes (7-6) on Tuesday night. Host HK Eastern was defeated by Valientes in a tough game in Hong Kong 65-71. Valientes forced 22 HK Eastern turnovers. Strangely HK Eastern outrebounded Valientes 52-31 including a 21-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by Puerto Rican-Filipino forward Renaldo Balkman (201-1984, college: S.Carolina) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 27 points and 14 rebounds and American point guard Mario Chalmers (188-1986, college: Kansas) supported him with 11 points and 4 assists. Even a double-double of 22 points and 14 rebounds by Canadian center Chris McLaughlin (208, college: Victoria) did not help to save the game for HK Eastern. Croatian-Australian swingman Dominic Gilbert (198, college: UBC, agency: BIG) added 18 points and 16 rebounds. Valientes maintains fifth position with 7-6 record. HK Eastern at the other side keeps the third place with four games lost. Valientes will play against higher ranked Singapore S. (#4) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. HK Eastern will play against Tigers in Bangkok and hopes to get back on the winning track. This time they beat eighth ranked Thailand Tigers (1-12) 96-86. They outrebounded Tigers 43-29 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American center Tevin Glass (203-1994, college: ETSU) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds. The other American import guard Isaiah Williams (188-1995, college: Georgia St., agency: BIG) chipped in 23 points and 5 assists. Williams is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. NS Matrix's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Augustus Stone (193, college: St.Thomas, FL) who recorded 26 points and 4 assists and guard Kittitep Dasom (179-1996) added 19 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Defending Malaysian champion maintains first position with 10-3 record, which they share with Saigon Heat. Tigers lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Louvre S.. NS Matrix will meet HK Eastern (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Tigers will play against HK Eastern (#3) and hope to win that game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Macau made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American DeQuan Abrom (188-1996, college: Belm.Abbey) who scored 20 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. Filipino guard Jenning Leung (183-1995) chipped in 24 points and 5 rebounds. Five Macau players scored in double figures. Macau's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was French center Alioune Tew (204-1992, college: Niagara) who recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and 23 rebounds and Ebrahim Enguio (185-1988) added 21 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Macau maintains sixth position with 7-7 record. Louvre S. lost eleventh consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Tigers. Macau will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Louvre S. will play against the league's second-placed Heat (#2) in Saigon and hope to win that game. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Singapore S.. Americans were the main players on the court. Worth to mention a great performance of JR Holder (198-1994, college: Jacksonville) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 4 assists and guard Evan Gilyard II (178-1998, college: UMKC) who added 17 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Four Heat players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was swingman Kentrell Barkley (195-1996, college: ECU, agency: Haylett Sports) with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds and center CJ Gettys (213-1994, college: Rutgers, agency: Haylett Sports) scored 14 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Defending Vietnamese champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with NS Matrix. Singapore S. at the other side keeps the fourth place with five games lost. Heat is looking forward to face Louvre S. (#7) in Surabaya in the next round where they are favorite. Singapore S. will play on the road against Valientes in Zamboanga City and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
