Round 11: Macau defeat NS Matrix

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Malaysian NS Matrix (9-3) on the court of sixth ranked Macau Macau on Monday night. Visitors were defeated by Macau 75-65. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of NS Matrix. American players dominated the game. DeQuan Abrom (188-1996, college: Belm.Abbey) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Center DeAngelo Hamilton (203-1990, college: WSU) contributed with 11 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Center Tevin Glass (203-1994, college: ETSU) answered with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 22 rebounds and 4 assists for NS Matrix. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Macau maintains sixth place with 6-7 record. Defending Malaysian champion NS Matrix still keeps top position with three games lost. They share it with Saigon Heat. Macau are looking forward to face Louvre S. (#7) in Surabaya in the next round. NS Matrix will play at home against Tigers (#8) and is hoping to win this game.
The game in Bangkok supposed to be also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked Singapore Singapore S. (8-4) played at the court of 8th ranked Thailand Tigers (1-11). Singapore S. smashed Tigers 121-74. American players dominated also this game. It was a great evening for swingman Kentrell Barkley (195-1996, college: ECU, agency: Haylett Sports) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists. CJ Gettys helped adding 25 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists. William Vedder (204-1997, college: Tusculum) responded with 24 points and 7 rebounds. Singapore S. have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 8-4 record. Tigers lost fourth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost. They share it with Louvre S.. Singapore S. will play against league's second-placed Heat in Saigon in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tigers will play against the league's leader NS Matrix (#1) to get more than just one victory in their record.

In the last two games of round 11 Macau was beaten by Saigon Heat on the road 79-70. Zamboanga won against Louvre S. on its own court 83-69.

Tigers - Singapore S. 74-121

The game in Bangkok supposed to be also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked Singapore Singapore S. (8-4) played at the court of 8th ranked Thailand Tigers (1-11). Singapore S. smashed Tigers 121-74. Singapore S. dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Tigers' 46. They outrebounded Tigers 58-25 including a 39-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Singapore S. players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Tigers' players. They brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. American players dominated also this game. It was a great evening for swingman Kentrell Barkley (195-1996, college: ECU, agency: Haylett Sports) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists. No shocking result in a game when second ranked Vietnamese Heat (9-3) beat 6th ranked Macau Macau (6-7) in Saigon 79-70. It was a great evening for American JR Holder (198-1994, college: Jacksonville) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import power forward Jeremy Combs (201-1995, college: Texas Southern) helped adding 14 points and 14 rebounds. Filipino guard Jenning Leung (183-1995) responded with 21 points and 5 rebounds and American DeQuan Abrom (188-1996, college: Belm.Abbey) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending Vietnamese champion used an opportunity after NS Matrix lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Macau at the other side keeps the sixth place with seven games lost. Heat will play against Singapore S. (#4) at home in the next round. Macau will play against Louvre S. in Surabaya and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Rather expected game when 7th ranked Indonesian Louvre S. (1-11) lost to fifth ranked Filipino Valientes (6-6) in Zamboanga City 69-83. Valientes dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Louvre S.'s 30. They outrebounded Louvre S. 44-33 including 29 on the defensive glass. Valientes players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was a great evening for Puerto Rican-Filipino forward Renaldo Balkman (201-1984, college: S.Carolina) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists. American forward Jeremy Arthur (199-1994, college: FPU) helped adding 16 points. Arthur is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Valientes' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. French center Alioune Tew (204-1992, college: Niagara) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 20 rebounds and Ebrahim Enguio (185-1988) scored 17 points. Four Louvre S. players scored in double figures. Valientes maintains fifth place with 6-6 record. Louvre S. lost tenth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 11 games lost. They share it with Tigers. Valientes will play against higher ranked HK Eastern (#3) in Hong Kong in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Louvre S. will play at home against Macau (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
