The Regular Season in ASEAN League just ended. Coincidentally all hosts won their games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Taiwanese Formosa D. (19-7) in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday night. Visitors were edged by ninth ranked Malaysian Westports MD (8-18) 97-96. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Formosa D.. Westports MD looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American players dominated the game. It was a good game for forward Chris Eversley (201-91, college: Cal Poly - SLO) who saved his team from a defeat with 32 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Winston Shepard (203-93, college: San Diego St., agency: Slash Sports) contributed with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners. Power forward Will Artino (211-92, college: Creighton) answered with 27 points and 8 rebounds for Formosa D.Westports MD moved-up to eighth place. Formosa D. at the other side still keeps top position with seven games lost.
Important game to mention about took place in Saigon. Sixth ranked Vietnamese Saigon Heat (14-12) saved a 1-point victory at home edging second-best Filipino SM Beermen (18-8) 81-80 on Sunday evening. It was a great evening for American-Puerto Rican point guard TreVon Hughes (185-87, college: Wisconsin) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. Kyle Barone helped adding 22 points and 14 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American-Puerto Rican forward Renaldo Balkman (203-84, college: S.Carolina) with 25 points and 8 rebounds. SM Beermen's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Saigon Heat moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Macau. SM Beermen lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the second position with eight games lost.
The game between fifth ranked Hong Kong Hong Kong ELL (15-11) and 10th ranked Chinese Zhuhai (2-24) in Hong Kong on Sunday ended with biggest points difference. Hong Kong ELL outscored guests from 101-70. It was a quality performance for Michael Holyfield who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Hong Kong ELL's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Michael Bell came up with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for Zhuhai in the defeat. Hong Kong ELL moved-up to fourth place. Zhuhai lost tenth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 24 lost games.

In the last game of round 27 Mono Vampire was beaten by Singapore S. on the road 100-88.



Westports MD - Formosa D. 97-96

Singapore S. - Mono Vampire 100-88

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Singapore Singapore Slingers (16-10) beat at home 8th ranked Thailand Mono Vampire (11-15) 100-88 on Sunday. Singapore Slingers made 24-of-31 free shots (77.4 percent) during the game. Singapore Slingers outrebounded Mono Vampire 50-36 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Jerran Young (198-91, college: Wright St.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 10 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Xavier Alexander (198-88, college: S.Nazarene) accounted for 26 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists for the winning side. American forward Michael Singletary (198-88, college: Texas Tech) came up with 20 points and 7 rebounds and American-Bahrain power forward Malcolm White (205-88, college: LSU) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Mono Vampire in the defeat. Five Singapore Slingers and four Mono Vampire players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Singapore Slingers have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 16-10 record having just three points less than leader Formosa D. Loser Mono Vampire dropped to the ninth position with 15 games lost.

Important game to mention about took place in Saigon. The game between fifth ranked Hong Kong Hong Kong ELL (15-11) and 10th ranked Chinese Zhuhai (2-24) in Hong Kong on Sunday ended with biggest points difference. Hong Kong ELL outscored guests from 101-70. Hong Kong ELL looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Zhuhai's players. It was a quality performance for American center Michael Holyfield (211-92, college: Sam Houston St.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). His fellow American import guard Marcus Elliott (191-84, college: Louisiana Tech) accounted for 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Four Hong Kong ELL players scored in double figures. Hong Kong ELL's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
