SAMUEL DEGUARA

Maltese Center Samuel Deguara (223-C-91) had a great game in the last round for second-ranked Hong Kong ELL, receiving a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 19.
The 27-year old player had a double-double of 18 points and 31 rebounds, while his team beat SM Beermen (#1, 15-3) 88-83. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Hong Kong ELL maintains the 2nd position in ASEAN League . They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Hong Kong ELL will need more victories to improve their 12-9 record. Deguara turned to be Hong Kong ELL's top player in his first season with the team. Samuel Deguara has solid league stats. He is in league's top in rebounds (2nd best: 13.8rpg) and averages impressive 1.6bpg and 65.1% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 27-year old American Maxie Esho (206-F/C-91, agency: Two Points) of CLS Knights. Esho had a very good evening with a double-double of 37 points and 13 rebounds. Of course CLS Knights cruised to a 109-102 relatively comfortable win over the lower-ranked Mono Vampire (#9, 6-12). CLS Knights' 6th position in the standings has not changed. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 9-11 record. Esho is a newcomer at CLS Knights, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 23.8ppg (#5). He also registered 9.5 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was American forward Michael Bell (206-F-82) of Zhuhai (#10). Bell showcased his all-around game by recording 22 points, fourteen rebounds (!!!) and six assists in the last round. Despite Bell's great performance Zhuhai lost 79-105 to the higher-ranked SM Beermen (#1, 15-3). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Zhuhai can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have extremely bad season and 2-17 record places them at the very bottom of the standings. Too bad for Bell he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Bell has individually a great season in ASEAN League. After 15 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 12.3rpg (6th best). He also has 1.5bpg and FGP: 55.3%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Tevin Glass (206-F-94) of Formosa D. - 28 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Doug Herring Jr. (191-G-87) of CLS Knights - 26 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists
6. Michael Singletary (198-F-88) of Mono Vampire - 29 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists
7. Renaldo Balkman (203-F-84) of SM Beermen - 20 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists
8. Chen Cai (205-C-93) of Zhuhai - 32 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Michael Holyfield (211-C-92) of Hong Kong ELL - 19 points and 20 rebounds
10. Romeo Travis (198-PF-84) of Mono Vampire - 21 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
