Coincidentally all hosts won their games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Seventh-ranked Chinese Macau (7-7) made lots of trouble for fourth ranked Hong Kong ELL (11-8) on Saturday. Hong Kong ELL managed to secure only two-point victory 111-109. However their fans expected easier game. Hong Kong ELL made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American-Dominican guard ODarien Bassett (189-86, college: Troy) who scored 30 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. American guard Marcus Elliott (191-84, college: Louisiana Tech) chipped in 34 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Hong Kong ELL's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Anthony Tucker (193-89, college: MSU Moorhead) produced 33 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) for the guests. Hong Kong ELL moved-up to second place. Macau lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with seven games lost. Hong Kong ELL are looking forward to face league's leader SM Beermen in Manila in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Macau will play on the road against Westports MD (#8) in Kuala Lumpur and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Manila. First ranked Filipino SM Beermen faced 4th placed Vietnamese Saigon Heat. Host SM Beermen (12-2) smashed guests from Saigon (10-7) 111-87. American-Puerto Rican center Peter Ramos (222-85) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists. Renaldo Balkman contributed with 29 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. SM Beermen's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Chris Dierker (196, college: Madonna) answered with 20 points and 5 rebounds for Saigon Heat. SM Beermen have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 12-2 record. Saigon Heat lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with seven games lost. SM Beermen will play against league's second-placed Hong Kong ELL on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Saigon Heat will play against Singapore Slingers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Singapore was also quite interesting. 5th ranked Indonesian CLS Knights (9-8) played at the court of sixth ranked Singapore Singapore Slingers (9-6). Singapore Slingers did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 95-76 on Sunday. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of CLS Knights. Jerran Young stepped up with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 14 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Maxie Esho responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds. CLS Knights' coach rotated twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Singapore Slingers moved-up to fifth place. CLS Knights at the other side dropped to the sixth position with eight games lost. Singapore Slingers will meet at home higher ranked Saigon Heat (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. CLS Knights will play against Mono Vampire in Bangkok and hope to secure a win.

In the last game of round 17 bottom-ranked Zhuhai were crushed by Mono Vampire in Bangkok 113-92.



Mono Vampire - Zhuhai 113-92

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 10th ranked Chinese Zhuhai's (2-15) road loss to ninth ranked Thailand Mono Vampire (3-12) 92-113 on Saturday. Mono Vampire dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Zhuhai's 48. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists comparing to just 19 passes made by Zhuhai's players. American forward Michael Singletary (198-88, college: Texas Tech) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners and American-FYR Macedonian Romeo Travis (198-84, college: Akron) chipped in 12 points, 15 rebounds and 9 assists. Singletary is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American guard Michael Taylor (186-86, college: Iowa St.) responded with 37 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 8 assists and the other American import forward Michael Bell (206-82, college: Florida Atlantic) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds. Five Mono Vampire and four Zhuhai players scored in double figures. Zhuhai's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Mono Vampire maintains ninth place with 3-12 record. Zhuhai at the other side stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Mono Vampire will meet at home higher ranked CLS Knights (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Zhuhai will have a break next round.

American-Puerto Rican forward Renaldo Balkman (203-84, college: S.Carolina) contributed with 29 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners.
