There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with defeat of the leader and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Top ranked Taiwanese Formosa D. (6-2) recorded its second loss in Bangkok on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by ninth ranked Thailand Mono Vampire (1-5) 89-74. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Formosa D.. Mono Vampire dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Formosa D.'s 24. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Michael Singletary (198-88, college: Texas Tech) who had a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds. Filipino-American point guard Jason Brickman (181-91, college: LIU Brooklyn) chipped in 16 points and 14 assists. American guard Malcolm Miller (201-91, college: Southern) produced 27 points and 5 assists for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mono Vampire maintains ninth position with 1-5 record. Formosa D. at the other side still keeps top place with two games lost. Mono Vampire are looking forward to face higher ranked Saigon Heat (#3) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Formosa D. will play against the league's second-placed Singapore Slingers and will have a slim chance for a victory.
Important game to mention about took place in Saigon. Second ranked Singapore Singapore Slingers (6-3) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging one of their biggest challengers Vietnamese Saigon Heat (6-4) 78-75 in the game for the second place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Saigon Heat. American guard Jerran Young (198-91, college: Wright St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 27 points and 7 rebounds. Xavier Alexander contributed with 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Canadian Murphy Burnatowski (196-91, college: Colgate) replied with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds for Saigon Heat. Singapore Slingers have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 6-3 record having just one point less than leader Formosa D. Saigon Heat at the other side dropped to the third place with four games lost. Singapore Slingers will play against league's leader Formosa D. in Changhua City in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Saigon Heat will play at home against Mono Vampire and hopes to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Singapore between Hong Kong Hong Kong ELL and Singapore Singapore Slingers. Fifth ranked Hong Kong ELL (4-4) got a very close victory on the road over second-ranked Singapore Slingers (6-3). Hong Kong ELL managed to escape with a 3-point win 92-89 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Singapore Slingers. The game was dominated by American players. Worth to mention a great performance of Eric Ferguson who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 27 points and 16 rebounds. John Fields responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 16 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Hong Kong ELL have a solid three-game winning streak. Despite that victory Hong Kong ELL went down to sixth position due to points difference. Loser Singapore Slingers keep the second place with three games lost. Hong Kong ELL will meet Westports MD (#8) in the next round. Singapore Slingers will play against the league's leader Formosa D. (#1) in Changhua City and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Visiting Singapore Slingers were defeated by SM Beermen in a tough game in Manila 71-77. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Singapore Slingers. The best player for the winners was Peter Ramos who had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists. SM Beermen moved-up to fifth place. Loser Singapore Slingers keep the second position with three games lost. SM Beermen will face bottom-ranked Zhuhai (#10) in the next round where they are favorite. Singapore Slingers will play against the league's leader Formosa D. (#1) in Changhua City and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Rest of the games of round 8 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Mono Vampire were defeated by CLS Knights in Surabaya 80-75. Bottom-ranked Zhuhai was smashed by Saigon H. at home 86-105. SM Beermen won against CLS Knights on the opponent's court 88-80. Bottom-ranked Zhuhai managed to outperform CLS Knights in a home game 96-88. Mono Vampire recorded a loss to Saigon H. on the road 87-76.



CLS Knights - Mono Vampire 80-75

There was no surprise in Surabaya where 9th ranked Thailand Mono Vampire (1-5) was defeated by seventh ranked Indonesian CLS Knights (2-6) 80-75 on Wednesday. CLS Knights looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Montay Brandon (203-93, college: Florida St.) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 16 rebounds and 8 assists. American-Nigerian power forward Maxie Esho (206-91, college: Massachusetts, agency: Two Points) chipped in 26 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. American forward Michael Singletary (198-88, college: Texas Tech) produced 29 points and 7 rebounds and Filipino-American point guard Jason Brickman (181-91, college: LIU Brooklyn) added 6 points, 6 rebounds and 12 assists respectively for the guests. Four Mono Vampire players scored in double figures. CLS Knights maintains seventh position with 2-6 record. Loser Mono Vampire keeps the ninth place with five games lost. CLS Knights will face league's leader Formosa D. in Changhua City in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Mono Vampire will play on the road against Saigon Heat (#3) and hope to win that game.

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Vietnamese Saigon Heat (6-4) smashed on the road bottom-ranked Chinese Zhuhai (1-8) 105-86 on Thursday. They outrebounded Zhuhai 49-32 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Saigon Heat looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists. The best player for the winners was American center Kyle Barone (203-89, college: Idaho) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points, 17 rebounds and 6 assists. Canadian Murphy Burnatowski (196-91, college: Colgate) chipped in 35 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 6 assists. American forward Michael Bell (206-82, college: Florida Atlantic) produced 24 points and 8 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Eric Tisby (173-88, college: Sioux Falls) added 11 points, 9 assists and 4 steals respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Saigon Heat moved-up to third place. Zhuhai lost seventh consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with eight games lost.
