Mono Vampire - Singapore S. 85-82

Mono Vampire defeated Singapore Slingers to take 1-0 lead in the series. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 41-34 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Mono Vampire forced 20 Singapore Slingers turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by Singapore Slingers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Michael Singletary (198-88, college: Texas Tech) stepped up and scored 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and guard Darongphan Apiromwilaichai (185-85) chipped in 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Singletary is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Mono Vampire players scored in double figures. At the losing side American power forward Christien Charles (216-81, college: Villanova) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 23 rebounds and 6 blocks and the other American import guard Xavier Alexander (198-88, college: S.Nazarene) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists.

Alab Pilipinas - Saigon H. 110-100

Alab Pilipinas overcame Saigon Heat in the opener. The game was mostly controlled by Alab Pilipinas. Saigon Heat was better in fourth quarter 28-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Alab Pilipinas dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Saigon Heat's 42. They outrebounded Saigon Heat 54-29 including a 22-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Alab Pilipinas players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Saigon Heat's players. American-Puerto Rican forward Renaldo Balkman (203-84, college: S.Carolina) nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points, 20 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and American forward Justin Brownlee (197-88, college: St.John's) accounted for 22 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. Brownlee is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American-Nigerian power forward Maxie Esho (206-91, college: Massachusetts, agency: Two Points) came up with a double-double by scoring 42 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds (on 16-of-21 shooting from the field) and Filipino-American guard Michael Williams (188-91, college: CS Fullerton) added 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Saigon Heat in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures.
