Round 13: Westports MD beats Alab Pilipinas by one after a very close game - Mar 5, 2018

The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute surprises and upsets. Host teams show no mercy winning all games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most exciting game of round 13 in the ASEAN League took place in Kuala Lumpur. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 3rd placed Filipino Alab Pilipinas (11-5) to seventh ranked Malaysian Westports MD (5-10) 90-89 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the 11-game winning streak of Alab Pilipinas. Westports MD made 26-of-34 free shots (76.5 percent) during the game, while Alab Pilipinas only scored ten points from the stripe. Strangely Alab Pilipinas outrebounded Westports MD 51-36 including 16 on the offensive glass. 28 personal fouls committed by Alab Pilipinas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Chris Eversley (201-91, college: Cal Poly - SLO) who helped to win the game recording 36 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Joshua Munzon (191-95, college: CS Los Angeles) contributed with 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American-Puerto Rican forward Renaldo Balkman (203-84, college: S.Carolina) answered with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 19 rebounds for Alab Pilipinas. Westports MD maintains seventh place with 5-10 record. Alab Pilipinas at the other side keep the third position with five games lost. Westports MD are looking forward to face higher ranked Saigon Heat (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Alab Pilipinas will play against Chongson in Nanhai and are hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Singapore. Fourth ranked Singapore Singapore Slingers (10-7) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 6th ranked Chinese Chongson (7-5) 89-86 on Sunday evening. American players dominated the game. Power forward Christien Charles (216-81, college: Villanova) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 19 rebounds for the winners and Xavier Alexander chipped in 32 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. At the losing side guard Anthony Tucker (193-89, college: MSU Moorhead) responded with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Singapore Slingers have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 10-7 record. Chongson lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with five games lost. Singapore Slingers will play against CLS Knights (#8) in Surabaya in the next round. Chongson will play at home against Alab Pilipinas and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Saigon Heat outscored guests from Surabaya 114-86. Maxie Esho nailed a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds for the winning side. Brian Williams came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds for CLS Knights in the defeat. CLS Knights' coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Saigon Heat moved-up to fifth place. CLS Knights lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 12 games lost. Saigon Heat will meet at home Westports MD (#7) in the next round. CLS Knights will play against Singapore Slingers and hope to secure a win.

In the last game of round 13 Chongson was beaten by Mono Vampire on the road 105-92.

Important game to mention about took place in Singapore. Fourth ranked Singapore Singapore Slingers (10-7) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 6th ranked Chinese Chongson (7-5) 89-86 on Sunday evening. Singapore Slingers dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Chongson's 38. They outrebounded Chongson 44-30 including a 20-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. American players dominated the game. Power forward Christien Charles (216-81, college: Villanova) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 19 rebounds for the winners and guard Xavier Alexander (198-88, college: S.Nazarene) chipped in 32 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. At the losing side guard Anthony Tucker (193-89, college: MSU Moorhead) responded with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists and swingman Caelan Tiongson (193-92, college: Biola, CA) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Chongson players scored in double figures. Singapore Slingers have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 10-7 record. Chongson lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with five games lost. Singapore Slingers will play against CLS Knights (#8) in Surabaya in the next round. Chongson will play at home against Alab Pilipinas and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Four Saigon Heat players scored in double figures. American center Brian Williams (208-87, college: Tennessee) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import forward Shane Edwards (201-87, college: UALR) added 23 points respectively for CLS Knights in the defeat. CLS Knights' coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Saigon Heat moved-up to fifth place. CLS Knights lost fourth consecutive game. Mono Vampire - Chongson 105-92

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Thailand Mono Vampire (12-5) beat 6th ranked Chinese Chongson (7-5) in Bangkok 105-92 on Wednesday. Mono Vampire outrebounded Chongson 52-28 including a 35-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American forward Michael Singletary (198-88, college: Texas Tech) nailed a double-double by scoring 41 points (!!!), 19 rebounds and 9 assists for the winning side and Maltese center Samuel Deguara (223-91) accounted for 24 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists. Singletary is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American center Justin Howard (209-81, college: Mercer) came up with 28 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import guard Anthony Tucker (193-89, college: MSU Moorhead) added 19 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals respectively for Chongson in the defeat. Four Mono Vampire and five Chongson players scored in double figures. Mono Vampire have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending Thailand champion moved-up to second place. Chongson lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with five games lost. Mono Vampire will again meet Chongson (#6) in the next round. Chongson will play against Alab Pilipinas and hope to secure a win.
