ASEAN League round 5 best performance: Justin Brownlee - Jan 12, 2018

American Forward Justin Brownlee (197-F-88) had a very impressive game in the last round for Alab Pilipinas, receiving a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 5.
The 29-year old player was the main contributor (29 points, seven rebounds and eight assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Westports MD (#8, 1-3) 90-79. Thanks to this victory Alab Pilipinas moved-up to the 6th position in ASEAN League. Alab Pilipinas is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 3-4 record. In the team's last game Brownlee had a remarkable 69.2% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Alab Pilipinas, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Justin Brownlee averages just after three games 20.7ppg, 8.3rpg and 6.7apg. Worth to mention Brownlee played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

The second best player in last round's games was 28-year old Filipino Christian Standhardinger (206-F-89) of league's leader Hong Kong ELL. Standhardinger had a very good evening with a double-double of 37 points and 19 rebounds. Bad luck as Hong Kong ELL lost that game 115-121 to the lower-ranked Saigon H. (#5, 3-2). Hong Kong ELL managed to keep the same 1st spot in the standings. It was just his team's 1st loss this season, while they won 7 other games. Standhardinger is a newcomer at Hong Kong ELL, but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was another Hong Kong ELL's star - American guard Marcus Elliott (191-G-84). Elliott got into 30-points club by scoring 34 points in the last round. He went also for twelve rebounds and ten assists. Despite Elliott's great performance Hong Kong ELL lost 115-121 to the lower-ranked Saigon H. (#5, 3-2). But his team cannot count on just these two top stars as they also need help of the other teammates. Hong Kong ELL had another "accident". It may be a crucial game and cause dropping from the group of top ranked teams. The record is still good, but 1st lost game is hopefully really an accident. Elliott's teammates are also very good. That's why having such high stats is even more impressive. Elliott has a great season in ASEAN League. After only 8 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 20.8ppg (9th best) and assists with 8.9apg (2nd best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Maxie Esho (206-F-91) of Saigon H. - 27 points and 14 rebounds
5. Christien Charles (216-F/C-81) of Singapore S. - 29 points, 15 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Moses Morgan (198-SF-92) of Saigon H. - 27 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Xavier Alexander (198-G-88) of Singapore S. - 20 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists
8. Akeem Scott (185-G-83) of Saigon H. - 29 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists
9. Renaldo Balkman (203-F-84) of Alab Pilipinas - 26 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
