Round 13: NS Matrix lose to HK Eastern

The biggest surprise took place in Hong Kong where host Hong Kong HK Eastern (11-4) beat league's leader Malaysian NS Matrix (10-4) 73-62 on Thursday evening. It was a key game for the second position in the league. HK Eastern outrebounded NS Matrix 51-32 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Canadian center Chris McLaughlin (208, college: Victoria) fired a double-double by scoring 24 points and 17 rebounds for the winners. Croatian-Australian swingman Dominic Gilbert (198, college: UBC, agency: BIG) chipped in 16 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. American center Tevin Glass (203-1994, college: ETSU) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. NS Matrix's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. HK Eastern have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Defending Malaysian champion NS Matrix dropped to the third position with four games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Saigon Heat.
Vietnamese leader Heat delivered the twelfth victory. This time they crushed 8th ranked Indonesian Louvre S. (1-14) 97-35 in Saigon. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Kiet Nguyen Anh (180-2002) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds. Evan Gilyard II contributed with 20 points for the winners. American-Indonesian Jamarr Johnson (198-1988, college: Widener) answered with 11 points for Louvre S.The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Heat have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending Vietnamese champion maintains first place with 12-3 record. Louvre S. lost thirteenth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with 14 games lost. They share it with Tigers.
The game in Zamboanga City was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Singapore Singapore S. (9-5) played at the court of 5th ranked Filipino Valientes (7-7). Singapore S. defeated Valientes 97-87 on Thursday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Valientes. Kentrell Barkley stepped up and scored 41 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. At the losing side Renaldo Balkman responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. Singapore S. maintains fourth place with 9-5 record. Valientes at the other side keep the fifth position with seven games lost. They share it with Macau.

In the last game of round 13 HK Eastern defeated Tigers in Hong Kong 75-66.

Zamboanga - Singapore S. 87-97

The game in Zamboanga City was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Singapore Singapore S. (9-5) played at the court of 5th ranked Filipino Valientes (7-7). Singapore S. defeated Valientes 97-87 on Thursday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Valientes. They outrebounded Valientes 43-26 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. American swingman Kentrell Barkley (195-1996, college: ECU, agency: Haylett Sports) stepped up and scored 41 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and his fellow American import center CJ Gettys (213-1994, college: Rutgers, agency: Haylett Sports) chipped in 24 points, 18 rebounds and 6 assists. At the losing side Puerto Rican-Filipino forward Renaldo Balkman (201-1984, college: S.Carolina) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds and American point guard Mario Chalmers (188-1986, college: Kansas) scored 19 points, 8 assists and 4 steals. Four Valientes players scored in double figures. Singapore S. maintains fourth place with 9-5 record. Valientes at the other side keep the fifth position with seven games lost. They share it with Macau.

HK Eastern outrebounded Tigers 54-31 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Croatian-Australian swingman Dominic Gilbert (198, college: UBC, agency: BIG) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 21 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and Canadian center Chris McLaughlin (208, college: Victoria) chipped in 27 points and 14 rebounds. HK Eastern's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American William Vedder (204-1997, college: Tusculum) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 21 rebounds and the other American import guard Augustus Stone (193, college: St.Thomas, FL) scored 19 points. Heat held Louvre S. to an opponent 24.1 percent shooting from the field compared to 57.6 percent accuracy of the winners. Heat forced 25 Louvre S. turnovers and outrebounded them 41-21 including a 32-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three nailing 17 long-distance shots on high 51.5 percentage. Heat players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Louvre S.'s players.
