 | Ilyasova finished a great season in Spain | |
|
by Eurobasket News - Jun 6, 2008 | | | Ersan Ilyasova (207-F-87) and his AXA FC Barcelona finished second in Spain after a loss from TAU Ceramica Vitoria in the Final series.Barca previously eliminated Tau in the semifinals back in 2004 and 2007. Tau was even closer in 2005 and 2006 making it to the finals and losing twice. Tau Ceramica won at Palau Blaugrana to pick up a dominant 64:75 success against Barcelona. The home team had looked like they might be capable of their emotional semi-final success over DKV Joventut but after an impressive and frenetic start top the contest, Barca simply folded and lost all of their intensity when Tau found their feet. Splitter top scored for Tau wirth 21 points while Singleton missed out on a double-double with 9 points and 10 rebounds. Ersan Ilyasova and Grimau were the only players to do themselves justice in the Barca team with Grimau scoring 17 points while Ersan Ilyasova claimed 10 rebounds to go with his 21 points. Tau Ceramica picked up a second victory in Palau Blaugrana against Barcelona who now look to have had their dreams shattered by the side from Vitoria-Gasteiz. Tau secured the 74:78 win at the Fernando Buesa Arena on Tuesday night.Illyasova desperately needed someone to support him again but nothing comprehensive in the backcourt emerged - and that has been the problem of Barca. Ersan Ilyasova was the only one to reach double digits scoring 15 points. And it went very easy for Tau as they crushed Barca in all three finals games, ending the series with impressive 76:61 victory. Ersan Ilyasova poured in 2 points and made 3 rebounds. |

 | Uzbekistan defeats Mongolia in Doha 2006 qualifiers | |
|
| | | Uzbekistan were comfortable winners by 102-66 in their 1st round match against Mongolia; building on a solid 1st quarter spearheaded by forward Aleksandr Kozlov who top-scored with 23 points.
Previously India had failed to arrive for their game and forfeited the match 20-0 to a bemused Bahrain who were introduced to the crowd, heard the whistle blow for the start of the match, immediately followed by another blast from the referee indicating that it was all over – without any shouting – and they were winners.
Bahrain took the free time for some practice, but it was the real thing with the Mongolians and Uzbeks as the first quarter began.
Uzbekistan took a commanding 35-15 lead at the end of the quarter, largely thanks to 17 points from forward Aleksandr Kozlov.
Mongolia got off to a poor start, committing plenty of fouls and soon finding themselves 15-3 down before rallying as the 1st quarter came to an end.
Mongolia started brightly in the 2nd quarter with Batjargal Gankhulug and Tsetsgee Mergen shooting three-pointers from outside the arc.
But Uzbekistan’s power and height advantage proved dominant and they posted 16 points unanswered to take a 31 point advantage into the 2nd half.
Despite a brave display by Mongolia, led by captain Oyunbileg Sainbayar, Uzbekistan extended their lead in the 3rd quarter of this match.
Twelve points for Mikhail Shafenkov helped the Uzbeks to a 33 point advantage as the teams entered the final session.
In a low scoring 4th quarter, Uzbekistan wrapped up the game after Mongolian indiscipline led to a number of free throws.
The Uzbeks will go into their next game, against Palestinian Territory at 14:15 on 26 November, full of confidence with Aleksandr Kozlov at the forefront of their attack. His 23 points made him top-scorer in this match.
Mongolia face an uphill task to qualify and must rely heavily on Munkhbayar Badrakh who top scored for them with 16 points.

 | Iran outscored Uzbekistan at Asian Championships 2005 | |
|
| | |
Iran - Uzbekistan 84-43 In the first playoff and perhaps one of the much one-sided game Iran outclassed Uzbekistan 84-43, Iran which was defeated by China in the opening match, appeared much pleasing yesterday to win the match quite influentially. P. Tadjik was the top scorer for the wining side with 18 points, while Sergei Kuchin (205-F/C-79) scored the maximum for Uzbekistan with 13 points. Uzbekistan has lost both the matches so far and now are left with very less chances to qualify in the competition, however they still have a match to play against the defending champions tomorrow.
