| |  | One of the biggest summer events, 'Hong-man Cup' (Leisure and Cultural Services Department Cup) was finished at 30th October. The most exicting event is the Men open between age 22 to 38, which were competed between many Division One players, and would be allowed to exchange the players temporarily.
The finals of men's groups of aged 22 to 38 and 50 or above were playing in the Wan Chai Southern Stadium, although not too many spectators visited the game. The younger group final was the Division One Champion South China (Nanhua) playing with the freely organised team Fay Fay, which injected with former Hong Kong international centre Choi Fong-yue. Fay Fay finally upset the league champion South China by winning the scores 65:48. South China finished with three consecutive runner-up in this tournament. |

| Final Tribute to QEII Youth Centre | |

| | | Queen Elizabeth II Youth Centre (Old Eliz Stadium) which was built since 1952, hosted most the league games for half a century, was closed after 2nd October. Hong Kong Basketball Association enterntained the crowd with two invitation friendly games at the night of tribute. The fist freindly game was played among the retired famous players, and the second one was played between Hong Kong basketball team and Zhongshan city team. After the night, the rebuilding project is also carriying out at the same time.
The first game was played by the players in 60-70's and the players in 80-90's, which were a lot of big names, including Wong Kwok-yeung, Cheng Chi-hong, Leung Feo-chun, Song fong and Ng Chu-yip. In front of 1,800 spectators, the former stars enjoyed with no discolor performance. The crowd paid great respects which was absence for long time for Hong Kong local sport. Legendary guard for Hong Kong team Ng Chu-yip said after the game, 'The stadium is valued to preversed, since it provided meomories for the South East Asia basketball, however, it is suitable to rebulid as the basketball development has the piority.'
The second game ran with a comfortable Hong Kong victory, by winning 80-59. Those things like the analog game clock, metal roof-top and all the greatest local basketball memories of the stadium were all becoming the history. |

| Hong Kong lost in the MIBC | |

| | | Hong Kong basketball team lost all five games in Malaysia International Basketball Championship, finishing bottom among the six teams. The championship also included Malaysia Petronas, Pure Youth of Taiwan, Singapore Slingers, India and Kyung-hee University of South Korea.
Team manager Hung Yau-yik said already before the championship, Hong Kong would represented by the second team which was enjoying to earn more experience in the games. He also mentioned the players would act like some of the substitutes in the East Asia Game in 2009. However, the results of Malaysia International Basketball Championship are disappointing with all defeats.
Despite the total defeat in the championship, Hong Kong team would got a valued experience in the game versus Malaysia Petronas, which lost finally by 14pts. American imports Jamal Brown (198-F-78, agency: Tank Sports, college: TCU) and Brad Bridgewater (203-F-80, college: LSU) were on the Malaysian's side, but the game once turrned to the peak at forth period, as Hong Kong team overscored 75 to 73 when there is under 8 minutes to go. Later, Malaysian had a 17 to 1 run to resecue them.
The final standings: Malaysia Petronas 8 pts, Pure Youth 8pts, Singapore Slingers 6pts, Kyung-hee University 4pts, India 4pts, Hong Kong 0pt. Malaysia Petronas beat Kyung-hee University 78-75 to win the title at the Maba Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on 7th September. In the game, American import Jamal Brown had 27 points and 12 rebounds, contributed Malaysian come back late in the game. Singapore Slingers finished third after losing 94-93 to Pure Youth at the final game.

| Hong Kong U18 survived the battles over Malaysia U18 and UAE U18 | |

by Eurobasket News - Sep 1, 2008 | | | Hong Kong U18 and Malaysia U18 struggled for the first win in Group 4 and only 3 points separated the even teams. Hong Kong U18 led two points after three quarters and won 85:82. The winners started with 21:18, but then Malaysia U18 closed the first half at 47:43 advantage. With the same tough game the teams entered the last period with 63:61 for Hong Kong U18 as the latter led to 85:82 total win. Chow Kin Wan led the winners with 29 points and Lee Kwan Yu added 19. Ong Chun Khee had a great game in defeat providing 29 points, while Kuek Tian Yuan and Te Kok Lim supported him with 12 apiece. Hong Kong won their game for a possible 9th place showdown.
Hong Kong U18 won another game at FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Men. Just some minutes ago it became known that the team overcame United Arab Emirates that struggled hard in the game. Both teams had two different quarters in the first half with Hong Kong U18 taking 22:12 lead and then UAE U18 bouncing back for 26:37. The latter led also entering the last period but could not lead the game to the winning effort. Hong Kong, who looked withered against the Emirates rally, scraped through to win 72:70. Lau Hoi To led the winners with 20 points and Lau Tsz Lai added 11. Salah Khalifa Abdalla poured in 27 points in defeat, whilst Omar Khalid Faqqas notched 13.

Group A last game of the FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Men saw the battte for the third game and for the last. India U18 won over Hong Kong U18 110:64 to avoid the fourth place in Group A. The win in all the quarters brought the initial win for the Indian players. Vishesh Bhriguvanshi led the winners with 25 points. Pratham Singh nailed 21 and Shantilal added 12. Chow Kin Wan top-scored in defeat with 17 points and Lee Kwan Yu added 13. India, who lost to Japan and China earlier in the group, will be drawn into Group III in the classification cluster of the Quarterfinal round. Hong Kong will take their place in Group IV.
The game however was even in the opening quarter. India had difficulties going on a big lead but stayed in front. With 25:20 the favorites won the first period and looked forward for the second to go on a bigger one. They managed to do it taking 55:33 at the halftime. Later on they pushed the tempo and controlled the entire game. The end of the third period saw them improving to 87:46 and the final whistle brought 110:64 victory. Hong Kong U18 did not win any games but will hope for the next games.

by Eurobasket News - Aug 29, 2008 | | | The 20th Edition of the FIBA Asia Junior Championship started in Iran and will be held from August 28 through September 5. The tourney will enjoy the participation of fifteen teams. They were divided into 4 preliminary groups. China, Japan, Hong Kong and India got into Group A. Group B comprised South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan and Syria. Chinese Taipei, Philippines, UAE and Lebanon got into Group C. Finally hosting Iran, Malaysia, Jordan and made up for Group D. China celebrated the victory in the 19th edition of the competition held in Urumqi City.
China beat Hong Kong 115:61 in its opening contest in Group A of the FIBA Asia Under-18 championship. Li Xiaoxu (204-C-90) led the winners with 17 points. Liu Shunan (198-F-90) netted 15, while Zhao HongWei (192-G) and Wang Zheng (216-C-90) added 14 each and Yu Shulong scored 13. Yuen Ka Ho ended up with 9 points in the losing effort. China led 27:15 after one quarter, 55:22 at the half, and 88:42 after three quarters. Liu Shunan, a 200 cm small forward from Liaoning did not play in China's loss to Taiwan in Manila. Wang Zheng, the 216 center and the player who has the most NBA potential on the team, scored 14 points as did Zhao HongWei.
In the second day of the tournament Japan mauled Hong Kong 102:60 and advance to the top groups of the Quarterfinal round. Japan won the opening quarter 22:11 and did not stop in the game. They led to 39:27 after the half and increased to 74:43 after three quarters played.

| | | Nike All-Hong Kong Youth Basketball League was finshed on 10th August. Youngster Lau Hoi-to ( Fukien PF/198cm/ 16yrs old) represented fot the team 'Air Zoom' in the U-19 group, which successfully won all the five games and clinched the title with a promising performence.
The champion of U-19 group was decided by best two out of three between 'Air Zoom' and 'Uptempo', which was finsihed without much surprise that 'Air Zoom' won two straight games by 15 and 20 points representatively.
After 'Uptempo' lost the first game with 65:85, they insisted to rely again on the main scorer Cheung Wai-hong. However, the second game was just on the plan what 'Air Zoom' designed. Cheung was still under a massive team defence by 'Air Zoom'. The first half was controlled by 'Air Zoom' with 21:15 and 37:24 when going through the quarter marks. 'Uptempo' got a better rythem at the second half , but could not make the margin narrower, defeated by 56:71.
Lau Hoi-to was selected as the Final MVP, and he made a comment about his height after the games. 'I am the tallest player in the Nike League, which resulted with a lot of double team, but I resolved the problem with the best way, as I turn to assist my teammates' Lau was playing in th U-16 group last year, while the changing of age group casued no trouble for the promising star. |

| | | Hong Kong High School All-Star Team made the new history as finishing fouth in the China National High School Basketball Copetition (South) hosted in Changsha Hunan at March 2008, meanwhile the key player of the Hogh school all-stars power forward Zhou Kin-wan will again lead the Hong Kong U-18 team to compete in Asian U-18 Men Basketball Championship in Tehran by 26th August.
Hong Kong High School All-Star Team was defeated 50:77 in the second runner-up game, defeated by Lin Hai Hui Pu School at 10th March. And before this, Hong Kong High School All-Star Team was defeated by the semi-final defeat against the later Champion Shu De School from Chengdu, Sichuan.
The most remarkable result of this tournament was the victory over Pu Tian Second School from Fujian. 17years old Divison 1 On-ching power forward Zhou Kin-wan (194cm, 90kg) scoerd two consecutive three pointers at the forth quarter, helping the team won by 79:69. Besides Zhou, players as Chen Chun-wai and Lo Hong-leuk were excellent perfrming in the paint.
Before the Asian U-18 Men Basketball Championship, Zhou was one of the young players pacticipated in the Nike summer camp in Guangzhou Canton, where he got few true lessons from NBA player Andre Iguodala. |

| Strait Cup result | |

| | | Hong Kong Men's Basketball team won the title of the Strait Cup 2008, as they defeated Fujian SBS Xunxing 86-81 in the host final at Southorn Stadium on 27th July. Moreover, point guard LAW Yi-ting of Hong Kong named the MVP and the Best Three-point shooter award in this tournament. He had scored 14 of his game high 28pts in the 4th period.
Fujian SBS Xunxing was missing starting PG Lu Xiao-ming, SG Yang Chao in actions, as they won the first victory towards the Taiwan Champion Taiwan Beer on the first day; but lost the final to Hong Kong. Former Chinese International Liu Yu-Dong was main contributer on scoring, while 208cm long centre Yang Geng-lin was cammanding the paint when playing against Hong Kong.
Hong Kong mostly had a good demonstration of 'run an gun' style, greatly emphasized on speed and high 3 pt shooting accuracy. With tallest player was only 201cm PF Li Wai-lun, Hong Kong team was using zone defence in the second half action, while Fujian coundn't find a chance to get close in the last one and a half minute. Meanwhile, Taiwan Beer could only won the game against Macau Fukien Club, finished 3rd out of four.Their PF Lin Chih-Chieh was out of shape after the first game against Fujian SBS Xunxing, when he still maintained attacking the rim of Fujian side's with three powerful dunks. Their guard Yang Chin-Min was performing well through the tournament, and maintained the most scoring player from the four teams.
