| |  | JARR David scored 31 points and guided Manama to a crucial 86-64 victory over Sitra in the Zain Bahrain Basketball League match last night at the Umm Al Hassam Sports Complex. The 15-time league champions, coached by Salman Ramadan, proved too strong for their opponents in an action-packed match which was attended by a big crowd. Both Omran Abdulreda and Mahmood Ghuloom 'Mash' were also in top form for Manama, scoring 17 points each. Other players who made crucial contributions for the winners were Mohammed Hussain, who scored 11 points, besides Abdulmajeed Ali 'Shahram' and rising players - Ahmed Aziz, Mahdi Hassan, Hani Alam, Hassan Habib and Ayoob Najaf.
It was the seventh win in eight matches for Manama who now regained their lead in the 10-team round robin championship with 15 points from eight matches. They are one point ahead of second-placers Nuwaidrat and two on top of defending champions Muharraq who have 13 points. Muharraq also have a match in hand against Al Ahli on Friday.
On the other hand, Sitra's fifth defeat saw them share sixth position with Al Ittihad and Isa Town with 11 points each from eight matches. Sitra's top player yesterday was Edei Boni of Nigeroa who made the bulk of scoring with 23 points.
In another match, Al Hala recovered from their disastrous defeat to Manama last week with a tough 86-79 victory over Isa Town.Jonathan Hopkins masterminded Al Hala's fourth win by scoring 30 points. Saleh Al Haddad-coached Al Hala now moved up to fifth place with 12 points.For Isa Town, their best player was veteran Ahmed Qahiri who scored 31 points. Hoping to continue their recent good run in the league and move up in the table, Isa Town suffered their fifth defeat in eight matches and are presently eighth with 11 points. Source GDN- R.  | Manama Topple Al Hala | |

| |  | MAHMOOD Ghuloom and Mohammed Hussain put on a splendid perimeter shooting display last night to lead Manama to a 105-69 romp of Al Hala in the Zain Bahrain Basketball League, played at the Um Al Hassam sports complex.
The backcourt tandem combined for eight three-point makes between them in the lopsided victory, which was their fifth in six games. Ghuloom top-scored for Manama with 30 points including three triples, while Hussain contributed 25 markers including his game-high five field goals from beyond the arc.
The victors held a narrow 27-24 lead after an up-and-down opening quarter, but cruised from there as they took control of the contest in the second period to head into half-time 49-34 ahead. Manama extended their advantage to 82-59 heading into the final period, and didn't let up in the closing moments to seal the 36-point win.
American professional Jarred David added 28 points to Manama's cause while also controlling the interior and grabbing a game-high 19 rebounds. Ahmed Mirza had 16 points to pace Hala, who suffered their fourth loss in seven games. Import Jonathan Hopkins put in another 15 points but managed to take down just six rebounds. SOURCE: GDN |

 | Manama Guard wins weekly basketball league honour | |

| |  | MANAMA'S Mohammed Hussain was yesterday named the Player of the Week in the Zain Bahrain Basketball League.
Hussain was instrumental in his club's 105-69 rout of Al Hala on Monday, scoring 25 points, including five-three pointers, in just 25 minutes of play. He also dished out four assists and registered two steals.Hussain beat out Al Ettihad pair Kadhem Majed and Sayed Mohammed Sharaf for the weekly individual honour.
Both players helped lead Ettihad to a 78-60 triumph over Bahrain Club. Majed had an all-around effort, scoring 25 points, grabbing nine rebounds and registering six assists; while Sharaf had a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds to go with two steals.
All three were also named to the Team of the Week. Abdullah Al Khaja of Al Ahli and Isa Ebrahim of Muharraq were the other two players on the squad. Ahli's Nedhal Abbas, meanwhile, was named the Sixth Man of the Week, while Hussain's Manama teammate, American import Jarred David, was named the Professional of the Week. |

 | Muharraq Pip Sitra to regain Lead | |

| |  | TITLE holders Muharraq yesterday moved back on top of the table after a 56-54 victory over Sitra in the Zain Bahrain Basketball League being held at the Umm Al Hassam Sports Hall. Sitra were handed their fourth defeat in seven matches.
Mohammed Hassan made the bulk of scoring for Muharraq with 16 points and Mohammed Majeed added 15. For Sitra, their best player was Mohammed Kuayed who scored 18 points. With this win, Wayne Mendez's side are now back on track with 13 points from seven games and share the lead with Al Ahli who earlier outplayed last week's surprise team Nuwaidrat 68-46.
In other matches, Al Ittihad clinched their first win in six matches, beating Bahrain Club 78-60 while Isa Town edged Al Najma 68-66. National team player Kadhem Majed was the top scorer for Al Ittihad with 25 points. He was assisted by American import Daymond Forey who scored 21 points.
Al Ittihad were represented by Sayed Mohammed Sharaf, Fuad Ibrahim, Jalal Akbar and Sayed Mohammed Dawish. For Bahrain Club, who remained at the bottom of this 12-team table with seven points from seven straight defeats, had Mohammed Nabeel as their top scorer with 33 points. | |  | DEFENDING champions Muharraq powered to an 84-70 win over Al Hala last night in the Zain Bahrain Basketball League, played at the Um Al Hassam sports complex. The victors were led by star players Mohammed Hassan, Mohammed Abdulmajeed, and American professional Rah-Shaun Roberts. In yesterday's other game, Al Ahli defeated Isa Town 83-73.
Meanwhile, Zain Bahrain has signed up to sponsor this year's league with a BD80,000 deal. The signing ceremony was attended by Zain Bahrain general manager Mohammed Zainalabedin, Bahrain Basketball Association president Adel Al Assoumi, and other officials. Source: GDN |

| |  | SITRA continued their impressive comeback in the Zain Bahrain Basketball League with an emphatic 81-50 victory over Al Najma yesterday at the Umm Al Hassam Sports Hall. Coached by Najah Isa, it was the second successive win for last year's semi-finalists Sitra who had a disastrous start to the season.
They lost their first three matches to Al Ittihad, Nuwaidrat and Al Ahli before picking up their maiden victory last week against Bahrain Club. With this win, Sitra now have seven points from five matches and are sharing second place with Manama, Al Ahli and Al Hala who have one match each in hand. | |  | Al Manama regained their winning form in the Bahrain Basketball League, beating arch rivals Al Ahli Manama 102-90 last night at the Umm Al Hassam Sports Complex.
Salman Ramadan's squad overcame an early deficit in the first quarter to post a crucial victory in their bid to regain the title they last won three years ago. Al Ahli Manama, coached by Erik Tyrone of the US, started the match on a high note, taking a 23-22 lead in the first quarter but Manama made a strong comeback in the second quarter which ended in their favour 42-38. Manama, who have record of league 15 titles, maintained their momentum in third set where they stretched their lead to 70-63.
Manama had a strong start in the fourth and last quarter where they took an 11-point lead but Al Ahli Manama gradually came back and managed to reduce the deficit to two points with over two minutes remaining. However, it was Manama who had the final laughs, thanks to their rising star Mohammed Hussain who scored crucial points in the closing stages to give his side 12-point victory.
Jarred Merrill (206-F-81, agency: Pro Management Agency, college: Oklahoma Christian) of the US made the bulk of scoring for the winners with 39 points, including 18 in the third quarter. Other who made further key contributions to Manama's triumph were Mahmood Ghuloom 'Mash' (27 points), Ahmed Aziz (13), Mohammed Hussain, Hassan Habib, Omran Abdulreda, Mahdi Hassan, Hani Alam Abdulmajeed Ali 'Shahram'.
It was the first defeat for Al Ahli Manama after three straight wins over Al Najma, Al Hala and Sitra. Al Ahli Manama's best player yesterday was Sayed Hashim Habib who scored 18 points. Hussain Shaker and Ahmefd Mallal (17 each), Konyon Boker (16) of the US, Abdulla Al Khaja, Maytham Jameel, Abdulrahman Tareq, Hisham Jassim and Nedal Abbas also spearheaded Al Ahli Manama, whose last title was won in 2006/07 season when they edged out Manama in a best-of-three playoff.
The win helped Manama reach their seventh point after four matches, just one point behind defending champions and Muharraq who are still unbeaten after four matches. Manama share second place with Al Ahli Manama, Al Hala and Nuwaidrat who bagged their third successive victory in the competition, defeating Isa Town 71-55 earlier yesterday.
Having lost their opener to Al Hala, Ahmed Salman's side continued their winning streak yesterday against a low-form Isa Town who were handed their third defeat in four matches. Ibrahim Al Derazi was Nuwaidrat's top scorer with 14 points. He was assisted by Jamal Holden (206-C-80, college: UALR) (13 points).
