Al Riyadi Beirut and Champville win their first Quarterfinals in WABA League. Champville made the first step towards WABA League semis. They stunned Petrochimi in Iran tonight to enter the second home game with confidence. Petrochimi and Champville were tied at 18 after ten minutes of action. Champville put their noses in front in the second quarter. The visitors established a 29:24 lead at the interval. The visitors cleared off in the third quarter. The Lebanese powerhouse went on a run that saw them take a 57:39 lead into the final frame. Petrochimi narrowed the deficit but Champville stayed in charge and ran for the win at the end. Fadi Khatib (199-F-79, agency: Pro Management Agency) had 25 points, 11 boards and 6 assists for Champville. Zob Ahan made the first step towards reaching the WABA League semifinals. They defeated Moutahed in Lebanon to take 1-0 lead in the best-of-three quarterfinal series. Moutahed - Zob Ahan 71:74 Zob Ahan made the first step towards reaching the WABA League semifinals. They defeated Moutahed in Lebanon to take 1-0 lead in the best-of-three quarterfinal series. Loren Woods (218-C-78, college: Arizona) accounted for 29 points, 15 boards and 3 assists to lead the effort. He also drained a three-pointer late in the game that sealed the win for Zob Ahan. Moutahed entered the game determined. The hosts ensured a 21:15 lead after ten minutes. Zob Ahan however surged ahead late in the first half. They established a 40:31 halftime lead. Zob Ahan maintained the lead throughout the third term. The Iranian team entered the final quarter up by four point 55:51. Moutahed refused to surrender and eventually erased the deficit. But Loren Woods stepped up for the visitors and sealed the win for Zob Ahan. Karam Ahmadian (197-F-77) nailed 19 points, while Aren Davoudichegani (185-PG-86) contributed 11 points in the victory. Aramex - Mahram 52:91 Mahram made the first step towards reaching WABA League semis. They defeated Aramex on the road to take 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Mahram will be looking forward to book the spot in the semis at home court on February 21. Mahram entered the game on a 14:0 spree to set the tone. The visitors never looked back afterwards keeping Aramex at bay throughout the rest of the encounter. Amir Sedighi (203-F-93) and Nikoloz Tskitishvili (212-C/F-83) knocked down 13 points each to lead the effort. Samad Nik Khahbahrami (198-F-83) added 12 points in the winning effort. Aramex answered with 14 points from Jamal Ali Ahmed. The hosts played without one of their leaders Ayman Idais (205-C-78, agency: Court Side). Malcolm Battles (205-F/C-79, college: N.Mexico) posted 28 points and 7 rebounds to pace Duhok. ASU in the meantime fell at 0-4 record and got eliminated from the tournament.

Duhok however did not surrender and soon regained the lead. Quinton Day (196-G-84, agency: Strategic Sports, college: UMKC) and Esian Henderson fouled out for ASU and Duhok capitalized surviving a tough final minutes and clinching a difficult win at the end. Jenero Gorgiss (185-G/F-82) posted 23 points, while Chamberlain Oguchi (198-G-86, college: Illinois St.) added 20 points in the victory. Quinton Day and Islam Abbaas (203-C-80) finished with 23 points each in the loss.
Mahram - Champville 67:64 Mahram narrowly defeated Champville to win WABA League Group B. The Iranian team now entered the quarterfinal stage undefeated and would face Aramex of Jordan. Champville lost their initial game and clinched the second position in the ladder. They will take on Petrochimi in the playoffs. Mahram eked out a 21:17 lead after the close first frame. They went on a 13:2 run early in the second period to clear off. Mahram established a 37:24 halftime advantage. The margin grew at 16-point mark in the third quarter. Mahram entered the final frame up by as many as 19 points 52:33. But Champville did not surrender as they trimmed the deficit to single digits and eventually came within a striking distance. The Lebanese team ran out of time before threatening the margin even more. Samad Nik Khahbahrami (198-F-83) posted 20 points and 5 boards for Mahram. Pape Sow (207-F-81, college: CS Fullerton) added 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Nikoloz Tskitishvili (212-C/F-83) contributed 13 points and 5 rebounds in the victory.
