There was a change at the VBA leadership position after last games. Round 8 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Saigon Heat (7-4). They were crushed by third ranked Hochiminh CW (5-4) 92-73 on Wednesday night. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Saigon Heat. Hochiminh CW maintains third position with 5-4 record having 2 victories less than leader Hanoi B. Saigon Heat at the other side still keeps top place with four games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Hanoi B. who have the same record. Saigon Heat will play next round against league's leader Hanoi B. trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Hochiminh CW will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Can Tho CF on the road.
Bottom-ranked Can Tho CF managed to get a fourth victory, breaking the two-game losing streak. This time they won against fourth-ranked Danang Dragons 91-75. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 16-point difference suggests that Can Tho CF is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. Can Tho CF (4-7) moved-up to fourth place. Danang Dragons at the other side dropped to the bottom position with seven games lost. Can Tho CF will play against higher ranked Hochiminh CW (#3) at home in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Danang Dragons will have a break next round.

Another professional club will represent Vietnam in the Thailand Basketball Super League (TBSL) after last year's third-place finishers, the Hanoi Buffaloes, begged off participation for the upcoming season. Officially named Mekong United, the team will be helmed by former Madgoat Basketball Club head coach Kevin Yurkus , who most recently steered the Can Tho Catfish to a runner-up finish against the Thang Long Warriors in a tight championship series in the 2017 Vietnam Basketball Associa...   [read more]
