Byron
Mullens
Al Wasl Dubai (D1) strengthened their roster with addition of 27-year old British ex-international center Byron Mullens (213-125kg-89, college: Ohio State). He played most recently at Konyaspor in Turkish BSL. In 9 BSL games he recorded 9.8ppg, 2.2rpg and 1.1apg last season. Mullens also played for another team Sioux Falls Skyforce in U.S. semi-pro league D-League that season where in 27 games he averaged 9.1ppg, 7.5rpg and 1.4apg.
In 2009 he was drafted by Dallas Mavericks (NBA) in first round (24th overall). Mullens attended Ohio State and it will be his eighth season in pro basketball.
Among other achievements he won D-League Central Division championship title in 2015. Mullens received also Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year award back in 2009 at his college time. Mullens was a member of British Senior National Team two years ago.
He is a very experienced player. Thanks to Mullens' pro career he managed to play on three different continents (Europe, Asia and of course North America) in four different countries. Mullens has played previously professionally in China (Shanxi Zhongyu and Shaanxi Wolves), Greece (Panionios), NBA (LA Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, Oklahoma City Thunder and Charlotte Hornets) and D-League (Oklahoma City Blue).
The scouts decsribe him following way: Has tremendous presence and a good sense of where he is on the floor with his back to the basket. Excellent finisher. Solid rebounder and shot-blocker. Fundamentally sound for his position ... Most of his points come off pick and rolls, put-backs and second shots opportunities, as well as dunks around the basket and alley-oops.
