Al Ahli celebrated the first win at the 24th Dubai International basketball tournament. They outscored Smart Gilas of Philippines 97:82 at the Al Ahli Sports Club in Dubai. LeRoy Hurd (202-F/G-80, college: UTSA) stepped up with 24 points to pace the winners.
Al Ahli dominated right from the start. The hosts built a 26:18 lead ten minutes into the game. They kept the pressure growing throughout the second quarter. Al Ahli established a 51:32 halftime advantage. The UAE team kept Smart Gilas at bay throughout the third quarter. Al Ahli piled up a comfortable 79:58 advantage at the final intermission. Al Ahli raced to the victory in the fourth quarter. Leemire Goldwire (182-PG-85, agency: Two Points, college: Charlotte) provided 21 points for the hosting team. Marcus Douthit (210-C/F-80, agency: Edge Sports, college: Providence) answered with 20 points and 10 rebounds for Smart Gilas. Chico Lanete (186-G-79) added 15 points in the loss.

Al Wasl Dubai (D1) strengthened their roster with addition of 27-year old British ex-international center Byron Mullens (213-125kg-89, college: Ohio State). He played most recently at Konyaspor in Turkish BSL. In 9 BSL games he recorded 9.8ppg, 2.2rpg and 1.1apg last season.
