Al Wasl to face Al Rayyan at the GCC Clubs Basketball Championship Semifinal that will be played on May 8th in Bahrain. The team from the United Arab Emirates finished second with 1-2 record and managed to grab the last ticket to the semis. Al Rayyan advanced to Final Four of 32nd GCC Clubs Basketball Championship as they won the first two games and clinched the top place in Group A.
The most important victory for Al Wasl was over Al-Ittihad from Saudi Arabia 76:60. The first quarter ended 28-20 for Al Wasl, who maintained momentum to clinch a 48-27 lead at half-time. Al Wasl also won the third period 20-16 and captured the victory by 16 points.
Al Rayyans important victory was over Muharraq 85:83. Pony Harold brought the last points for the winners in the game. Muharraq started the game on a high note, taking a 29:27 lead and enjoyed 48:46 lead at the halftime. Al Rayyan meanwhile won the third period 24-21 and then managed to grab 2-point victory. Tany Alba top-scored for the winners with 22 points and Yasseen Ismail (204-F/C-80) netted 19. Clark Ira (203-C/F-75, college: Texas) replied with 19 points in the losing effort.

Joventut lands Garrett Stutz, ex Al Wasl - 27 days ago

Divina Seguros Juventut Badalona (Liga Endesa) tabbed 26-year old American center Garrett Stutz (212-115kg-90, college: Wichita State). He played most recently at Al Wasl in United Arab Emirates. Stutz managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year (!!!). He also played that season for Tsmoki-Minsk in Belarusian league where in 7 FIBA Europe Cup games he averaged 13.1ppg, 7.0rpg, 1.3apg and 1.3bpg. Hapoel Galil Gilboa (National League) inked 26-year old American forward Eric Griffin (203-88kg-90, college: Campbell). He played most recently at Al Naser in UAE D1 league.
