Al Wasl to face Al Rayyan at the GCC Clubs Basketball Championship Semifinal that will be played on May 8th in Bahrain. The team from the United Arab Emirates finished second with 1-2 record and managed to grab the last ticket to the semis. Al Rayyan advanced to Final Four of 32nd GCC Clubs Basketball Championship as they won the first two games and clinched the top place in Group A.
The most important victory for Al Wasl was over Al-Ittihad from Saudi Arabia 76:60. The first quarter ended 28-20 for Al Wasl, who maintained momentum to clinch a 48-27 lead at half-time. Al Wasl also won the third period 20-16 and captured the victory by 16 points.
Al Rayyans important victory was over Muharraq 85:83. Pony Harold brought the last points for the winners in the game. Muharraq started the game on a high note, taking a 29:27 lead and enjoyed 48:46 lead at the halftime. Al Rayyan meanwhile won the third period 24-21 and then managed to grab 2-point victory. Tany Alba top-scored for the winners with 22 points and Yasseen Ismail (204-F/C-80) netted 19. Clark Ira (203-C/F-75, college: Texas) replied with 19 points in the losing effort.

Banijas Abu Dhabi (D1) tabbed experienced 36-year old American forward Donald Cole (203-81, college: Sam Houston State). He played most recently at Hoops in Lebanese Pepsi LBL, but left. In only one game he had very impressive stats: 18 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks last season. The previous (15-16) season Cole played at Al Ain where in 26 D1 games he averaged remarkable 28.7ppg, 11.3rpg and 3.4apg. Banijas Abu Dhabi (D1) landed experienced 37-year old Croatian center Bruno Sundov (221-119kg-80) from Al Shaab. In 1998 Sundov was drafted by Dallas Mavericks (NBA) in second round (35th overall). Among other achievements he won Bahrain League championship title in 2016. Sundov was selected to Bulgarian League All-Star Game in 2011, 2012 and 2015. Todd O'Brien (ex Seraeyett) signs at Al Naser - 22 days ago
Al Naser Dubai (D1) landed 28-year old American (has also Armenian passport) center Todd O'Brien (211-110kg-89, college: UAB). He played in the summer at Seraeyett in Palestinian PBBA. O'Brien managed to play in four leagues in two countries last year (!!!). In four Asia Champions Cup games he averaged impressive 19.3ppg, 11.8rpg (#3 in the league), 3.3apg, 1.0spg and 1.5bpg.
