TBL Round 12: Mono Vampire keeps a leadership position - Feb 15, 2017

There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with favorites losing the games and even winless team recording their first victory.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Mono Vampire as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Mono Vampire defeated 7th ranked Hanoi B. in Bangkok 88-75. The game was mostly controlled by Mono Vampire. Hanoi B. managed to win fourth quarter 16-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Reginald Johnson (208-89, college: Miami, FL, agency: Three Eye Sports) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points and 18 rebounds and the other American import forward Michael Singletary (198-88, college: Texas Tech, agency: Three Eye Sports) who added 26 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American power forward Steven Thomas (204-81, college: Middle Tenn.St.) with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 16 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mono Vampire (10-2) have an impressive six-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Hitech. Hanoi B. at the other side keeps the seventh place with eight games lost. Hanoi B. will play next round against Adroit trying to get back on the winning streak. Mono Vampire will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked TGE at home.
Very significant was TGE's (#6) 95-85 road victory against 5th ranked Kabayan. The winners were led by American forward Nahshon George (206-93, college: Idaho, agency: Haylett Sports) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds and Jeff Viernes supported him with 26 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Even a double-double of 19 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists by American Tavarion Nix (201, college: Midwestern St.) did not help to save the game for Kabayan. TGE (7-5) moved-up to fifth place. Newly promoted Kabayan dropped to the sixth position with six games lost. TGE will play against league's leader Mono Vampire in Bangkok in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Kabayan will play against Mono Thew (#3) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Mad Goat (9-3) against fourth ranked Mono Thew (9-3) on Sunday night. Host Mad Goat was defeated by Mono Thew in a tough game in Nakorn Phantom 81-85. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Mad Goat. The best player for the winners was Patrick Sanders who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was James Tyler who recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Mono Thew moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated Mad Goat. Mono Thew will meet at home Kabayan (#6) in the next round. Mad Goat will play against the league's second-placed Hitech and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
PEA has finally registered their first victory this season after 11 consecutive losses. The win is especially important as it came on the road game in Singapore, where they defeated Adroit (1-11) 91-82. It was a good game for Alfred Mandani who led his team to a victory with 35 points (!!!), 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. PEA left bottom position moving up to ninth place, which they share with defeated Adroit. It was Adroit's third loss in a row. PEA's next round opponent will be higher ranked Dunkin' Raptors (#8) and it may be quite challenging game.

Worth to mention a quality performance of Jonathan Kreft who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!). Dunkin' Raptors' coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Hitech have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 10-2 record, which they share with Mono Vampire. Loser Dunkin' Raptors keep the eighth place with nine games lost. Hitech will face Mad Goat (#4) in Nakorn Phantom in the next round. Dunkin' Raptors will play against PEA (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Mono Vampire - Hanoi B. 88-75

Dunkin' Raptors - Hitech 66-126

TBL top team - Hitech (10-2) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed eighth ranked Dunkin' Raptors (3-9) 126-66. The game without a history. Hitech led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Dunkin' Raptors' 42. They outrebounded Dunkin' Raptors 63-35 including a 39-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Hitech looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Dunkin' Raptors' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Hitech made 11 blocks. Worth to mention a quality performance of American center Jonathan Kreft (213-86, college: Florida St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!) and international guard Nakorn Jaisanuk (190-91) who added 27 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Five Hitech players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American power forward Michael Fey (213-83, college: UCLA) with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Jose Reyes (173, college: Purchase) scored 12 points and 5 assists. Dunkin' Raptors' coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Hitech have a solid four-game winning streak. Adroit - PEA 82-91

PEA has finally registered their first victory this season after 11 consecutive losses. The win is especially important as it came on the road game in Singapore, where they defeated Adroit (1-11) 91-82. Adroit was ahead by 1 point at the halftime before a 46-36 second half run of PEA. It was a good game for Alfred Mandani who led his team to a victory with 35 points (!!!), 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Maurice Shaw contributed with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 20 rebounds for the winners. American-Guyanese Travis George (206-85, agency: Haylett Sports) replied with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 32 rebounds and American swingman Kenneth Smith (195-87, college: Lourdes) added 29 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Adroit. PEA left bottom position moving up to ninth place, which they share with defeated Adroit. It was Adroit's third loss in a row. PEA's next round opponent will be higher ranked Dunkin' Raptors (#8) and it may be quite challenging game.

It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Mad Goat. International guard Nattakarn Muangboon (186-91) chipped in 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Hanoi Buffalos (VBA) agreed terms with experienced 35-year old American ex-international power forward Jordan Collins (208-110kg-82, college: North Carolina State). SeaHorses Mikawa (B League) inked 27-year old American forward Daniel Orton (208-116kg-90, college: Kentucky). He played in the summer at Hitech in Thailand TBL league. Orton managed to play in three leagues in three countries last year (!!!). In 19 TBL games he averaged 14.6ppg, 9.4rpg, 2.2apg, 1.1spg and 1.2bpg.
