Gentry Lewis
BK Kapshagay (D1) signed 32-year old American power forward Gentry Lewis (206-109kg-81, college: Philander Smith). He played last season at Bangkok Cobras in Thailand ASEAN League. In 19 games last year he had very impressive stats: 15.5ppg, 11.8rpg (#5 in the league), 1.8apg and 1.4spg.
The previous (2010-2011) summer Lewis played at Beykoz (D2) in Turkish D3 that season. In 7 games that year he recorded 8.3ppg, 11.0rpg and 1.0spg.
Lewis is quite experienced player. He has played also professionally in Montenegro (Ibon Niksic), Poland, Saudi Arabia (Al Nahdha) and Syria (Al Ittihad).
Lewis is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league on the market.
He attended Philander Smith College until 2005 and it will be his eighth season as a professional player.
Lewis could be described: Gentry started off his Professional career sort of slow while making the adjustment to the European game but now has evolved into a prolific scorer, rebounder, defender, and passer. Gentry is a versatile big man, He can play outside and inside and has a big body. He can put the ball on the floor to get to the basket. He has a soft touch around the basket, likes to use the backboard on inside shots. Also can hit the midrange jumpshot. On defence he is very patient and knows how to move his feet. Runs the floor very well.He is very quick and has a tremendous first step and can hit open shot as well as pass and penetrate to the basket and make the assist. He worked hard to become a more effiecient shooter this last season to become better equipped to play positions 3-5. He is a very complete player and has slimed down to be able to stay effective defensively on European position 3 players.
