Saigon Heat registered the second straight win at ASEAN League. They surprised the Thailand Slammers on the road tonight to improve at 6-9 record in the ladder. The Heat thus continue to fight for playoff birth. The Slammers fell at 5-11 record after the loss.
The Heat marked their ambitions in the opening quarter. They outgunned the Slammers 18:9 for a comfortable advantage. The Slammers started to come back into the game slowly in the second frame. The hosts cut the deficit to 5 points at the interval 26:31. However the Heat did not allow the home team to take over in the third term. The Heat entered the final period up by 9 points 49:40. Apiromvilaichai and Calvin Williams (206-F-87, college: SE Missouri St.) put the Slammers within one point with just over a minute remaining in regulation. But the hosts could not capitalize on three missed free throws from the Heat in the dying seconds and the Vietnam team celebrated a tough win at the end. Jahmar Thorpe (198-F-84, college: Houston) provided 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Jonathan Jones (211-C-79, agency: TSS Management) added 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Heat. Calvin Williams answered with 17 points and 20 rebounds for the Slammers. Christopher Garnett (211-C-80, college: Indiana SE) provided 14 points in the losing case.

Defending champion Mono Vampire Bangkok (TBL) landed 27-year old Maltese center Samuel Deguara (223-131kg-91). He played recently at Farmcochem in Malaysian MPL league. Three years ago Deguara was drafted by Erie Bay Hawks (D-League) in sixth round (98th overall). Among other achievements he won Malaysian MPL championship title in 2017. Hapoel Galil Gilboa (Winner League) strengthened their roster with addition of 26-year old American forward Cleveland Melvin(203-F-91, college: De Paul) (203-94kg-91, college: De Paul). He already started the season at Cibona in Croatian Premijer Liga. In 10 games he recorded 13.0ppg, 6.1rpg, 1.0apg, 1.5spg and 1.0bpg this season. JNE Siliwangi Bandung (IBL) tabbed American power forward Joel Clarke (208, college: Huston-Tillotson). He played in the summer at Kabayan in Thailand TBL league. In 11 games he averaged 10.5ppg and 8.5rpg. Among other achievements Clarke's team won MPBA Regular Season in 2016. He received also All-RRAC Honorable Mention award in 2015 at his college time.
