American Forward Eugene Phelps (198-F-90) had an amazing evening in the last round for KKL, receiving a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 21.
The 26-year old player had a double-double of 35 points and 20 rebounds, while his team beat Fubon Braves (#3, 15-10) 77-64. Thanks to this victory KKL moved-up to the 7th position in Taiwanese SBL. Too late to salvage the team, which is currently ranked at the very bottom. They already lost 18 games and recorded just six victories. In the team's last game Phelps had a remarkable 58.3% from 2-point range. He turned to be KKL's top player in his first season with the team. Former Long Beach State University star has very solid stats this year. Phelps is league's best scorer averaging so far 27.8ppg and leads league in rebounds with 16.2rpg. Phelps is in league's top in and averages impressive 1.3bpg.

The second best player in last round's games was 24-year old Indian Sim Bhullar (226-C-92) of league's leader Dacin Tigers. Bhullar had a very good evening with a double-double of 30 points and 25 rebounds. Bad luck as Dacin Tigers was edged by the lower-ranked Pauian (#5, 12-13) 85-82. Dacin Tigers managed to keep the same 1st spot in the standings. His team has currently 17-7 record. Bhullar is a newcomer at Dacin Tigers, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 19.4ppg (#3). He also registered 15.7 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was American center Bryan Davis (206-C-86) of league's second-best Taiwan Beer. Davis scored 26 points and grabbed nineteen rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of Taiwan Beer, leading his team to a 87-65 easy win against the lower-ranked Pauian (#5, 12-13). Taiwan Beer needs these victories very badly if they think about taking over top position in the standings. Their record at this point is 15 victories and 9 lost games. Davis has a great season in Taiwan. After 19 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 20.5ppg (2nd best), rebounds with 13.9rpg (4th best) and assists with 4.9apg (best passer). He also has 2.8spg and 2.1bpg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Herve Lamizana (208-F/C-81) of Yulon Luxgen - 33 points, 14 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Luke Nevill (218-C-86) of Bank of Taiwan - 20 points, 21 rebounds and 2 assists

7. Po-Sheng Chang (185-G-87) of Bank of Taiwan - 28 points and 4 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Slingers Win First Merlion Cup Game in Rout over Dinos, 89-69 - 2 months ago
The Singapore Slingers hadn't played in a long while, but were ready for their first game in the Merlion Cup 2017 against the Yulon Luxgen Dinos from Chinese-Taipei. It didn't look like the usual Singapore Slingers that fans had gotten used to see play in the OCBC Arena over the past two seasons. The regular faces like Xavier Alexander (198-G-88, college: S.Nazarene), Wong Wei Long, and Ng Hanbin (193-G/F-89) were there but it just felt a little off without having Justin Howard (209-C-81,...   [read more]
