SBL Round 21: #1 Dacin Tigers are defeated by Pauian - Feb 5, 2017

There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with defeat of the leader and favorites losing the games.

The most surprising game was another loss of top-ranked Dacin Tigers (16-7) against fifth ranked Pauian on Friday night. Pauian were edged by fifth ranked Pauian (11-13) 85-82. The former international swingman Chi-Wei Lee (192-93) stepped up and scored 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and international power forward Quincy Davis (206-83, college: Tulane) chipped in 13 points and 12 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Indian-Canadian center Sim Bhullar (226-92, college: N.Mexico St.) with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 25 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Pauian maintains fifth place with 11-13 record. Dacin Tigers at the other side still keep top position with seven games lost. Pauian are looking forward to face league's second-placed Fubon Braves in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Dacin Tigers will play against Yulon Luxgen and are hoping to win this game.
Very important is a loss of third ranked Fubon Braves (15-9) against sixth ranked KKL (6-18) on Friday night. Fubon Braves were defeated by KKL 77-64. American forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) nailed a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 20 rebounds for the winning side and Wei-Ju Chien accounted for 16 points and 5 rebounds. The former international swingman Wen-Cheng Tsai (190-85) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds for Fubon Braves in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Despite that victory KKL went down to seventh position due to points difference. Fubon Braves at the other side dropped to the second place with nine games lost. KKL will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Fubon Braves will play against Pauian and hope to get back on the winning track.

They share it with Taiwan Beer. Fubon Braves will meet Pauian (#5) in the next round. Yulon Luxgen will play against the league's leader Dacin Tigers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The game in supposed to be also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Taiwan Beer (14-9) played at the court of 5th ranked Pauian (11-13). Taiwan Beer smashed Pauian 87-65 on Saturday. Taiwan Beer forced 20 Pauian turnovers and outrebounded them 45-26 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. American center Bryan Davis (206-86, college: Texas A&M) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 19 rebounds for the winners and guard Huan-Ya Yu (183-93) chipped in 21 points. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Douglas Creighton (196-85, college: Madonna) with 17 points and 5 rebounds and the former international power forward Tai-Hao Wu (203-85, college: BYU-Hawaii) scored 10 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Yulon Luxgen. Loser Pauian keeps the fifth position with 13 games lost. Taiwan Beer will face Bank of Taiwan (#6) in the next round. Pauian will play against the league's second-placed Fubon Braves and hope to win that game.

Bank of Taiwan - KKL 85-68

Bottom-ranked Bank of Taiwan managed to get a sixth victory, breaking the series of nine consecutive losses. This time they won against sixth-ranked KKL 85-68. Very significant was Fubon Braves' (#3, 15-9) victory against second-best Yulon Luxgen (14-9) 92-79. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Yulon Luxgen. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Fubon Braves shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 61.9 percentage. The best player for the winners was Central African-American center Patrick O'Bryant (213-86, college: Bradley) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds. The former international forward Hsiao-Jung Chen (197-90) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Five Fubon Braves players scored in double figures.
