SBL Round 18: Fubon Braves lose the game and top position - Jan 10, 2017

There was a change at the SBL leadership position after last games. Round 18 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Fubon Braves (15-7). They were edged by fourth ranked Taiwan Beer (12-9) 74-72 on Sunday night. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Fubon Braves. American center Bryan Davis (206-86, college: Texas A&M) had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Huan-Ya Yu (183-93) chipped in 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was Canadian center Liam McMorrow (218-87, college: Tenn Tech) with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 16 rebounds. Fubon Braves' coach Hang-Shu Yan tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion maintains fourth position with 12-9 record. Fubon Braves at the other side dropped to the second place with seven games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Dacin Tigers. Fubon Braves will play next round against league's leader Dacin Tigers trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Taiwan Beer will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Yulon Luxgen at home.
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Dacin Tigers as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Dacin Tigers edged 7th ranked KKL at home 78-76. Indian-Canadian center Sim Bhullar (226-92, college: N.Mexico St.) notched a double-double by scoring 24 points and 20 rebounds to lead the effort and Yi-Xiang Zhou supported him with 19 points and 4 assists. Even 30 points and 7 rebounds by international swingman Wei-Ju Chien (185-92) did not help to save the game for KKL. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Dacin Tigers have a solid four-game winning streak. As mentioned above they took over a top position. KKL lost fourth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 17 games lost. KKL will play next round against strong Taiwan Beer trying to get back on the winning streak. Dacin Tigers will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Fubon Braves on the road.
Very important is a loss of third ranked Yulon Luxgen (13-9) against fifth ranked Pauian (10-12) on Sunday night. Yulon Luxgen was crushed by Pauian 84-63. The best player for the winners was Quincy Davis who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 22 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Herve Lamizana who recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Pauian maintains fifth position with 10-12 record. Loser Yulon Luxgen keeps the third place with nine games lost. Pauian will meet Bank of Taiwan (#6) in the next round. Yulon Luxgen will play against Taiwan Beer and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Yulon Luxgen - Pauian 63-84

Very important is a loss of third ranked Yulon Luxgen (13-9) against fifth ranked Pauian (10-12) on Sunday night. Yulon Luxgen was crushed by Pauian 84-63. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Yulon Luxgen's 26 and made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Yulon Luxgen 53-28 including a 19-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was international power forward Quincy Davis (206-83, college: Tulane) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 22 rebounds. The former international swingman Ching-Pang Lin (190-85) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Five Pauian players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Ivorian-French power forward Herve Lamizana (208-81, college: Rutgers, agency: Basket Management Solutions) who recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds and the former international guard Shih-Yuan Chou (188-83) added 15 points respectively.
