SBL Round 17: Fubon Braves beat Pauian by three after a very close game - Jan 8, 2017

Fifth-ranked Pauian (9-12) was very close to win a game against first ranked Fubon Braves (15-6) on Saturday. Fubon Braves managed to secure only three-point victory 75-72. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Pauian. Guard Wei-Che Lin (182-92) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 4 assists. Canadian center Liam McMorrow (218-87, college: Tenn Tech) contributed with 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. International power forward Quincy Davis (206-83, college: Tulane) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks for Pauian. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Fubon Braves have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 15-6 record, which they share with Dacin Tigers. Pauian at the other side keeps the fifth position with 12 games lost. Fubon Braves is looking forward to face Taiwan Beer (#4) in the next round. Pauian will play against Yulon Luxgen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

International guard Wei-Che Lee (179-91) responded with 21 points and 4 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Dacin Tigers have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Fubon Braves. Bank of Taiwan lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with 16 games lost. They share the position with KKL. Dacin Tigers will play against bottom-ranked KKL (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Bank of Taiwan will have a break next round.

Herve Lamizana nailed 31 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Yi-Jin Su came up with 9 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for KKL in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Yulon Luxgen maintains third place with 13-8 record having just two points less than leader Fubon Braves. KKL lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. They share it with Bank of Taiwan. Yulon Luxgen will meet Pauian (#5) in the next round. KKL will play against the league's second-placed Dacin Tigers and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 17 bottom-ranked KKL was beaten by Taiwan Beer 83-75. Pauian won against Bank of Taiwan 69-61.

Taiwan Beer - KKL 83-75

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Taiwan Beer (11-9) beat bottom-ranked KKL (5-16) 83-75 on Friday. It was a great shooting night for Taiwan Beer especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Taiwan Beer made 7 blocks. American center Bryan Davis (206-86, college: Texas A&M) nailed a double-double by scoring 25 points, 12 rebounds and 6 blocks for the winning side and international Po-Hsun Chou (197-91) accounted for 14 points and 7 rebounds. Four Taiwan Beer players scored in double figures. Taiwan Beer's coach Chia-Hua Yan used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds and international swingman Wei-Ju Chien (185-92) added 18 points and 7 rebounds respectively for KKL in the defeat. Defending champion maintains fourth place with 11-9 record. KKL lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. They share it with Bank of Taiwan. Taiwan Beer will meet league's leader Fubon Braves in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. KKL will play against the league's second-placed Dacin Tigers (#2) and hope to secure a win.
