26-year old forward Eugene Phelps (198-F-90) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for KKL and receives a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 8.
He had a double-double of 37 points and 14 rebounds, while his team beat Bank of Taiwan (#7, 1-9) 95-85. KKL maintains the 6th position in Taiwanese league. Too late to salvage the team, which is currently ranked such low. They already lost 7 games and recorded just three victories. Phelps turned to be KKL's top player in his first season with the team. Long Beach State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Phelps is league's best scorer averaging so far 31.1ppg and leads league in rebounds with 15.2rpg. Phelps is in league's top in and averages solid 1.2bpg and 52.2% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Luke Nevill (218-C-86) of Bank of Taiwan. He is Australian center in his 2nd season at Bank of Taiwan. In the last game Nevill recorded impressive double-double of 23 points and 15 rebounds. Bad luck as Bank of Taiwan lost that game 85-95 to slightly higher-ranked KKL (#6, 3-7). Bank of Taiwan are still at the very bottom. 9 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory Bank of Taiwan managed to get this year. Nevill is well-known at Bank of Taiwan and he already established his position as one of the team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 17.1ppg (#2). He also registered 14.1 boards per game.

Third place about best performers goes to forward Quincy Davis (206-F/C-83) of Pauian (#5). Davis scored 20 points and grabbed sixteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Davis' great performance Pauian lost 69-73 to slightly higher-ranked Taiwan Beer (#4, 5-5). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Pauian not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 7 games, recording just four victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Davis could try to bring Pauian's a little bit higher in the standings. Davis has individually a great season in Taiwan. After 11 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 10.9rpg (5th best). He also has 1.4bpg and FGP: 62.9%. Quincy Davis has also Taiwanese passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Po-Hsun Chou (197-PF-91) of Taiwan Beer - 17 points and 9 rebounds
5. Bryan Davis (206-C-86) of Taiwan Beer - 19 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Tai-Jie Wang (183-G-92) of KKL - 18 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Herve Lamizana (208-F/C-81) of Yulon Luxgen - 24 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Liam McMorrow (218-C-87) of Fubon Braves - 14 points and 18 rebounds
9. Chi-Wei Lee (192-G/F-93) of Pauian - 15 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Hsiao-Jung Chen (197-F-90) of Fubon Braves - 10 points and 12 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Taiwan beat South Korea 77-64 for title - 14 days ago
Taiwan's national team surprised defending champions South Korea with a 77-64 victory in Nagano, Japan, to win the International Basketball Federation's East Asia Basketball Championship crown for the first time. South Korea, looking to extend their run of three consecutive titles, began the stronger side, going ahead 20-15 in the first quarter. However, Taiwan reversed the deficit in the second quarter, with point guard Cheng Liu (192-F-90) and center Quincy Davis (206-F/C-83, college: T...   [read more]
