Japan U18-Syria U18 71:73

Syria upset Japan in Group B of the 22nd FIBA Asia U18 Championship. The team grabbed 73:71 win to finish on the second place with 2-1 record. Japan meanwhile dropped to the third position with 1-2 record.
Both teams nailed 15 points each in the first period and proved the importance of the game. They added 19 points each in the second frame as the board showed even numbers at the halftime. Japan seemed to have a better break and won the third period 24-20, but could not seal the victory. Shuto Terazono (165-PG-94) scored for 70:70 with 1 minute to go, while SHNNO and Ali Obesi (188-F-94) gave Syria the important win.
Ali Obesi top-scored for the winners with 21 points and Mourad Hashim (176-G-95) notched 20. Mahmmoud Trub (195-F-94) followed them with 9 points in a win. Masahiro Narita (185-SF-94) replied with 19 points in the losing effort and Shuto Terazono scored 15. Yuta Watanabe (200-SF-94) delivered 13, whilst Yuta Osaka (179-PG-94) nailed 9.

Club Sportif Antonins (Pepsi LBL) agreed terms with 33-year old Syrian international center Ivan Todorovic (214-84, agency: Interperformances). He is a dual citizen owning also FYR Macedonian passport. Todorovic played last season at L'Hospitalet in Spanish LEB Silver. In 13 games he had 6.7ppg and 5.3rpg. Veselin Matic (agency: Interperformances ) has been named the head coach of the Syrian National Team. He will guide the team through the Asian World Cup Qualifiers this year. Newly promoted Sulaf (Superleague) inked 27-year old Syrian ex-international power forward Tofek Saleh (207-90). He has a double citizenship as he also holds Palestinian passport. The last time (12-14) he played at Al Jaish in Syrian Division I. He missed last season and had one year break from professional basketball.
