Japan had a joyful Day 1 on U16 FIBA Asia Championship in India. The winning squad totally dominated against Sri Lanka stopping them on just 9 points for the game. Erina Sugawara drained 25 pts Japan and Rie Izumita was behind her with 18. Rina Hill added 12 pts in this victory. Only two players managed to score for Sri Lanka and D.k.himansani Premadasa had 7 of those. In Day 2, Japan will meet Thailand. Sri Lanka will play against Malaysia. Both teams are placed to Preliminary Group B.

Singapore arrived at halftime up by 15 points 31:16. They maintained the lead throughout the third quarter. Singapore entered the fourth period up by as many as 17 points 46:29. Sri Lanka refused to give up and outscored Singapore in the final frame. But the margin proved too deep to overcome as Singapore secured the victory. Han Priscilla (170-F-94) netted 10 points, while Chua Violet (160-F-95) and See Shermaine (162-G-94) added 8 points each in the win. Anne Ravindran (156-F-96) answered with 18 points for Sri Lanka. Pooja Marasinghege (169-C-94) delivered 12 points in the loss.
