KBL Round 17: Mobis Phoebus are defeated by Sonic Boom KT - Dec 22, 2012

The game between second ranked Mobis Phoebus (16-7) and seventh ranked Sonic Boom KT (10-13) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Mobis Phoebus were defeated by Sonic Boom KT in a tough game in Ulsan 79-83. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-17. But Mobis Phoebus won second period 19-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sonic Boom KT made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. American center Jasper Johnson (201-83, college: Delta St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds for the winners and the former international forward Sung-Min Cho (197-83) chipped in 19 points and 4 assists. Naturalized American forward Gregory Stevenson (198-78, college: Richmond) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. Mobis Phoebus' coach JaeHak Yoo rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Sonic Boom KT maintains seventh place with 10-13 record. Defending champion Mobis Phoebus dropped to the third position with seven games lost. Sonic Boom KT are looking forward to face league's leader SK Knights in Seoul in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mobis Phoebus will have a break next round.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Seoul. First ranked host SK Knights (18-5) defeated second-ranked Mobis Phoebus (16-7) 64-58. American forward Aaron Haynes (201-81, college: Boise St.) nailed 27 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and Sun-Hyung Kim accounted for 8 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Naturalized American forward Gregory Stevenson (198-78, college: Richmond) came up with 15 points and 7 rebounds for Mobis Phoebus in the defeat. Mobis Phoebus' coach JaeHak Yoo tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. SK Knights have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 18-5 record. Defending champion Mobis Phoebus dropped to the third position with seven games lost. SK Knights will play against Sonic Boom KT (#7) in Busan in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Mobis Phoebus will have a break next round.

SK Knights will meet Sonic Boom KT (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. LG Sakers will play against Dongbu Promy in Wonju and hope to secure a win.
The game in Seoul was also worth to mention about. Third ranked ET Land Elephants (16-6) played at the court of 6th ranked Samsung Thunders (11-12). ET Land Elephants defeated Samsung Thunders 89-75. Tae-Jong Moon orchestrated the victory by scoring 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. ET Land Elephants have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Samsung Thunders at the other side keep the sixth position with 12 games lost. ET Land Elephants' next round opponent will be LG Sakers (#5) in Changwon. Samsung Thunders will play at home against KCC Egis in Jeonju.
The game in Daegu was also quite interesting. Second ranked Mobis Phoebus (16-7) played at the court of 7th ranked Goyang Orions (9-13). Mobis Phoebus defeated Goyang Orions 65-49 on Tuesday. Ricardo Ratliffe stepped up and scored 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Despite that victory Mobis Phoebus went down to third position due to points difference. Goyang Orions lost their sixth game in a row. They dropped to the eighth place with 13 games lost. Mobis Phoebus will have a break next round. Goyang Orions will play on the road against Anyang KGC (#4).

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 17: Anyang KGC won against KCC Egis on the opponent's court 70-57. Samsung Th. unfortunately lost to Sonic Boom KT in a home game 69-78. Dongbu Promy recorded a loss to Goyang Orions on the road 69-78.



Samsung Th. - ET Land 75-89

The game in Seoul was also worth to mention about. Third ranked ET Land Elephants (16-6) played at the court of 6th ranked Samsung Thunders (11-12). ET Land Elephants defeated Samsung Thunders 89-75. The game without a history. ET Land Elephants led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. ET Land Elephants brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. International forward Tae-Jong Moon (199-75, college: Richmond, agency: Alti Sport) orchestrated the victory by scoring 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Guard Hyun-Min Lee (177-83) contributed with 6 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. American-Ghanian forward Odartey Blankson (199-82, college: UNLV, agency: Interperformances) answered with 15 points and 7 rebounds and guard Won-Soo Lee (181-83) added 11 points and 4 assists in the effort for Samsung Thunders. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. ET Land Elephants have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Samsung Thunders at the other side keep the sixth position with 12 games lost. Very expected game in Jeonju where 10th ranked KCC Egis (3-19) were defeated by fourth ranked Anyang KGC (13-9) 70-57 on Friday. The game without a history. Anyang KGC led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Anyang KGC forced 22 KCC Egis turnovers. Strangely KCC Egis outrebounded Anyang KGC 38-25 including 30 on the defensive glass. International forward Hee-Jong Yang (194-84) stepped up and scored 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and American forward Juan Pattillo (197-88, college: W.Kentucky) chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds. Anyang KGC's coach Sang-Bum Lee used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American center Courtney Sims (211-83, college: Michigan, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import power forward Andre Brown (206-81, college: De Paul, agency: Interperformances) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. The victory was the third consecutive win for Anyang KGC. They maintain fourth place with 13-9 record. KCC Egis lost their fourth game in a row. They stay dead last with 19 lost games.
