Mobis Phoebus (KBL) strengthened their roster with addition of 28-year old American forward Curtis Withers (203-104kg-84, college: Charlotte). He already started the season at Crocodiles in Australian NBL league. Withers ended the last season at Sioux Falls Skyforce in D-League. In 8 games last year he recorded 14.0ppg, 6.8rpg, 2.1apg and 1.4spg. But the most of that year he spent at Santa Cruz Warriors (previous name Dakota Warriors) in D-League. In 32 games he averaged 8.4ppg and 6.3rpg. The previous (2011) summer Withers also played at Panteras in Venezuelan LPB. The other team he played that season for was Angeles in Mexican LNBP. In 10 games he averaged 13.6ppg, 9.4rpg and 1.5apg. Another team Withers played shortly was Melilla_Baloncesto in Spanish LEB Gold. In 6 games he averaged 9.7ppg and 4.5rpg. Three years ago (three years after he left the college) Withers was drafted by Dakota Wizards (D-League) in first round (11th overall). The former University of North Carolina - Charlotte star is in his seventh season in pro basketball. His team won Israeli Cup in 2009. Withers received also Eurobasket.com All-Turkish League Honorable Mention award back in 2007. He represented USA at the World Championships U21 in Argentina seven years ago. Withers is a very experienced player. He has played also professionally in China (ShenYang), France, Puerto Rico, Israel (Hapoel Holon), Spain (Melilla Baloncesto) and Venezuela (Marinos and Guaros).

South Korea will now take on Hong Kong in the semifinal on Monday. South Korea stunned their opponents in the opening quarter. Macau managed to score just one point in the first ten minutes to face a woeful 33-point deficit at the break. South Korea sank 36 points in the second frame and gained a 70:12 halftime lead. The hosts scored eagerly in the second half cruising to a comfortable victory at the end. Kim Jong-Kyu (207-C-91) delivered 20 points for the winners. Lee Jung-Hyun (191-F-87) and Park Jae-Hyun (187-G-91) finished with 12 points each for the hosts. Ka Tong Lai (191-C-95) responded with 13 points for Macau. Chan Cheok Wa added 6 points in the loss.

The visitors went on a 21:15 rally in the first term. But the Korean side quickly bounced back. They adjusted defensively and held Taiwan to 10 points in the second period. South Korea accumulated a 37:31 halftime lead. The hosts maintained the lead throughout the third term. They arrived at the final intermission up by 11 points 56:45. South Korea unloaded 22 points in the fourth period and sealed the winning outcome at the end. Doo Kung-Min netted 12 points, while Lee Seoung-Hyun added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Park Chan-Hee (190-G-87) posted 14 points, 6 rebound and 5 assists to lead the charge. The hosts jumped to an early advantage. South Korea easily overcame Japan zone defence to take a 24:15 lead after the starting quarter. South Korea limited Japan to just 4 points in the second period to accumulate a 40:19 halftime advantage. The Korean team maintained the lead throughout the third quarter. They made it a 61:34 advantage heading into the final period. Japan finally found the rhythm in the fourth period firing 21 points but it was too late to avoid the loss. Kim Min-Goo netted 13 points, while Park Jae-Hyun (187-G-91) and Kim Jong-Kyu (207-C-91) added 10 points apiece in the victory. Ryota Sakurai (194-G-83) answered with 12 points for Japan. Kosuke Takeuchi (206-C/F-85) netted 9 points and grabbed 13 boards in the losing case.
