Lithuania opened win count at U17 World Championship. The hosts had to survive overtime drama to edge South Korea. The victory propelled Lithuania at 1-1 record, while South Korea fell at 0-2 record in Group B. Gediminas Zalalis (205-C-95) posted 27 points and 13 boards to lead the Baltic team to the vital win. South Korea jumped into the drivers seat in the opening quarter. They grabbed a 26:22 lead at the first break. The teams exchanged baskets throughout high-flying second frame. South Korea secured a 57:53 halftime lead. Grabauskas drew things level at 63 midway through the third term. Edvinas Seskus (192-G/F-95) finally put Lithuania in front but South Korea quickly responded. They eked out a 78:76 lead with one quarter to go in regulation. The lead changed hands for several times throughout intense fourth period. The Korean team gained a 98:93 advantage late in regulation. However Ernestas Serkevicius (187-PG-95) and Gediminas Zalalis drew things level at 100 at the end of regulation sending the game into overtime. Gediminas Zalalis and Edvinas Seskus combined for 18 points in the extra period to lead the hosts to the victory. Edvinas Seskus finished with 25 points and 15 boards, while Ernestas Serkevicius added 16 points for the winning side. Heo Hoon (181-G-95) answered with game-high 37 points for South Korea. An Youngjun (95) had 30 points in the loss.

Coach Yoo JaeHak selected 16 players including KBL regular season MVP Kim Sung-hyung and KBL Finals MVP Yang Dong-geun. Park Chan-hee and Yoon Ho-young came from Korean military team as known as Sangmu. Coach Yoo will narrow roster to 12 before the competition begins.

Al Shabab Dubai (D1) inked 28-year old American forward Joseph Taylor (205-102kg-85, college: Wyoming). He played recently at Goyang Orions in South Korean KBL league. In 8 games he averaged 9.6ppg, 3.9rpg and 1.0bpg this season. Taylor also played at Bank of Taiwan (SBL) in Taiwanese league earlier that season. In 29 games he had very impressive stats: 20.8ppg, 12.0rpg, 2.8apg, 2.4spg and 1.6bpg. A very good season in his career as he was selected to Asia-basket.com Taiwanese SBL All-Imports Team and 2nd Team. The last summer he was tested by Changan Group (NBL) in Chinese league. He helped them to make it to the semifinals. It was a very successful season in his career as he was selected to Asia-Basket.com Chinese NBL All-Imports Team and 2nd Team. The last () season Taylor played at White Eagles (D2) in Swedish league. In 23 games he had also remarkable stats: 17.1ppg, 8.9rpg, 3.0apg, 2.8spg (in top 5) and 1.7bpg. He contributed to his team winning the league title. Indeed an impressive season as he was awarded Eurobasket.com All-Swedish BasketEttan Forward of the Year, selected to 1st Team and selected to All-Imports Team. Taylor is a very experienced player. He has played also professionally in Hungary (Kaposvari), Turkey (Vestel), Sweden (Solna Vikings). Taylor attended University of Wyoming until 2008 and it is his fifth season in pro basketball.

Guo Ailun (192-SF-93) answered with 17 points in the losing effort and Li Muhao (218-C-92) had 12. Sun TongLin (208-F/C-92) and Wang Zhelin (215-PF-94) followed them with 11 points each in defeat.
