Premier League Round 9: Al Hilal hands first loss to undefeated Al Ittihad - Jan 1, 2013

The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated Al Ittihad (8-1) in Jeddah on Thursday night. Hosts were defeated by eighth ranked Al Hilal (4-5) 54-44. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Al Ittihad. Al Hilal maintains eighth place with 4-5 record. Defending champion Al Ittihad still keeps top position with one game lost. They share it with Al Ansar. Al Hilal are looking forward to face Al Khaleej (#10) in the next round. Al Ittihad will play against the league's leader Al Ansar (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
Another interesting game for Al Ansar (8-1) which played in Mecca against Al Wehda (7-2). Second ranked Al Ansar had an easy win 75-59. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Al Wehda. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Al Ansar have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Al Ittihad. Al Wehda at the other side keeps the third place with two games lost. Al Ansar will play against league's second-placed Al Ittihad in Jeddah in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Al Wehda will play on the road against Al Qadisiya in Al Khubar and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked Al Nasr is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their ninth consecutive match to seventh ranked Al Ahli (5-4) 74-44 on Thursday evening. Al Ahli moved-up to sixth place. Al Nasr lost their ninth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with nine games lost. Al Ahli will meet higher ranked Uhud (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Al Nasr will play against Al Jubail (#11) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
The game in Al Hasa was also worth to mention about. 4th placed Uhud (6-3) played at the court of fifth ranked Al Fath (6-3). Al Fath managed to secure a 4-point victory 92-88. Al Fath moved-up to fourth place, which they share with defeated Uhud. Uhud lost their third game in a row. Al Fath's next round opponent will be Al Nahdha (#7) in Al Khobar. Uhud will play at home against Al Ahli in Jeddah and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 9 Al Qadisiya was beaten by Al Khaleej on the road 83-71.


Al Ahli - Al Nasr 74-44

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when tenth ranked Al Khaleej (2-7) beat at home 9th ranked Al Qadisiya (3-6) 83-71. Newly promoted Al Khaleej maintains tenth place with 2-7 record. Al Qadisiya at the other side keeps the ninth position with six games lost. Al Khaleej's next round opponent will be higher ranked Al Hilal (#8) in Riyadh and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
