Al-Ittihad and Al-Fath started the International Tournament-32nd GCC Clubs Basketball Championship. Both teams from Saudi Arabia however lost the major games and did not advance to the next stage.
In Day 1 Muharraq overcame Al-Fath from Saudi Arabia 89:74. The team from Bahrain started with 26:17 and added 24-15 in the second period. Al-Fath won the third quarter 27-23 but could reduce only to 15 points at the end. Chester Giles (211-F/C-85, college: Oregon St.) and Era Clark guided Muharraq to victory, scoring 20 points each. Tyler Amaya (199-F-82, college: W.Washington) and Mohammed Al Saqer replied with 21 points each in the losing effort.
On May 4th Al Wasl beat Al-Ittihad from Saudi Arabia 76:60. The first quarter ended 28-20 for Al Wasl, who maintained momentum to clinch a 48-27 lead at half-time. Al Wasl also won the third period 20-16 and captured the victory by 16 points.
Al-Hala edged Al Ittihad 64:60. The winners took 15:13 after the first 10 minutes and claimed a 31:27 lead at the break. Al Ittihad extended their narrow advantage to 46:43 with Al Harbi and Donald Cole (204-C/F-81, agency: Edge Sports, college: Sam Houston St.) on fire. Al-Hala however played better at the end and sealed the victory.
Tonight Al-Rayan from Qatar rolled over Al-Fath from Saudi Arabia 77:60. Al-Ittihad finished the campaign with the narrow win over Al Nizwa 78:75.

As Seeb (D1) strengthened their roster with addition of 30-year old American swingman Antonio Haymon (198-102kg-88, college: Lee). He played last season at Al Salam in Saudi Arabian SBL league, played few games with Al Khor in Qatari league that year. The other team he played shortly was Hoops Club in Lebanese Pepsi LBL where in 6 games he recorded 13.8ppg, 8.3rpg, 1.5apg, 1.0spg and 1.0bpg last season. Justin Hawkins (ex Champville) agreed terms with Al Ittihad - 9 days ago
Defending champion Al Ittihad Jeddah (SBL) strengthened their roster with addition of 33-year old American small forward Justin Hawkins (203-100kg-85, college: New Mexico State). He started the season at Champville in Lebanese Pepsi LBL. In 9 games he recorded very impressive stats: 15.7ppg, 7.3rpg, 2.7apg and 1.8spg this season. SBL Round 6: Al Ittihad defeats Al Ahli Jeddah in the closest game of the week - 20 days ago
There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with derby games, favorites losing the games and even winless team recording their first victory. The most exciting game of round 6 in the SBL took place in Jeddah. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 6th ranked Al Ahli Jeddah (2-4) to top-ranked Al Ittihad (6-0) 92-91 on Thursday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment.
