Nick Stover
American Forward Nick Stover (198-F-93) had an amazing evening in the last round for second-ranked Al Arabi, receiving a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 1.
The 24-year old player had a double-double of 38 points and 10 rebounds, while his team outclassed, the league's bottom-ranked team Al Khor (#6, 0-1) with 37-point margin 101-64. Al Arabi maintains the 2nd position in Qatari D1. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Al Arabi won just one (their first) game. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Stover had a remarkable 66.7% from 2-point range and got four three-pointers out of 7 attempts. He turned to be Al Arabi's top player in his first season with the team. Former University of South Alabama star has very solid stats this year. Stover is in league's top in points (2nd best: 38.0ppg), rebounds (3rd best: 10.0rpg) and averages impressive 66.7% FGP and 57.1% from behind 3-point line.

The second best player in last round's games was 26-year old American Sherwood Brown (193-G-91) of Al Rayyan. Brown had a very good evening with a double-double of 36 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as Al Rayyan lost that game 78-95 to Qatar Club (1-0). The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Brown is a newcomer at Al Rayyan, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 36.0ppg (#3). His other stats are also decent: 10.0rpg and 4.0apg.

Third on the list of top players last round was Serbian forward Nenad Zivcevic (203-F-87, agency: Mansfield and Associates) of league's top team Al Ahli. Zivcevic showcased his all-around game by recording 28 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the last round. He was a key player of Al Ahli, leading his team to a 90-71 easy win against Al Shamal (#8, 0-1). Al Ahli has a very good start of the season. But there was just one game played, so it's too early to judge them at this stage. Zivcevic also has a very good start of the season with very strong stats. The season just started for Zivcevic as he played only first game. But it already looks like he can be team's leader.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Ramon Galloway (190-SG-91) of Al Sadd - 32 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists
5. Adamu Saaka (198-SF-88) of Al Wakrah - 38 points and 5 rebounds
6. Khobi Williamson (201-C-92) of Al Khor - 16 points, 15 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Mike Moser (203-F-90) of Al Sadd - 27 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists
8. William Byrd (201-G/F-85) of Al Arabi - 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists
9. Baden Jaxen (190-G-90) of Qatar Club - 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists
10. Brandan Kearney (198-G-92) of Qatar Club - 28 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

D1 Round 17: Al Gharafa beats Al Arabi in a derby game - 4 hours ago
The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Doha: Al Gharafa (#1) and Al Arabi (#2). Al Arabi was crushed at home by 52 points 44-96 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Al Gharafa forced 19 Al Arabi turnovers. The best player for the winners was international forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. International swingman Abdulrahman Saad (185-96) chipped in 17 po...   [read more]

D1 Round 16: #1 Al Gharafa is defeated by Al Sadd - 4 days ago
The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Al Gharafa (12-2) in Doha on Wednesday night. Hosts were edged by fifth ranked Al Sadd (8-6) 83-82. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Al Gharafa. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Albanian forward Mike Moser (203-90, college: Oregon) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds and American Julius Coles (193-89, college: Canisius) who added 18 points, 11 r...   [read more]
