Ayeni
29-year old forward Olatunbo Ayeni (196-F-87) put on an amazing game in the last round for Al Wakrah and receives a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 27.
He had the game-high 60 points adding nine rebounds and three assists for Al Wakrah in his team's victory, helping them to outclass Al Khor (#10, 2-13) with 29-point margin 114-85. Al Wakrah is placed at 5th position in Qatari league. Al Wakrah is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 6-10 record. In the team's last game Ayeni had a remarkable 66.7% from 2-point range. He turned to be Al Wakrah's top player in his first season with the team. St.Francis College (NY) graduate has very impressive stats this year. Ayeni is in league's top in points (3rd best: 29.9ppg), rebounds (7th best: 11.5rpg) and averages solid 53.6% FGP. Worth to mention Ayeni played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

Second best performed player last round was Dairese Gary (185-PG-88) of Al Khor. He is American guard in his first season at Al Khor. In the last game Gary recorded impressive triple-double of 40 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists. Bad luck as Al Khor lost that game 85-114 to the higher-ranked Al Wakrah (#5, 6-10). Al Khor are still at the very bottom. 13 lost games are too many comparing to just two victories Al Khor managed to get this year. Gary is a newcomer at Al Khor and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 24.9ppg (#8). His other stats are also decent: 9.1rpg and 6.3apg.

Third place about best performers goes to another Al Wakrah's star - guard Larry Blair (183-G-84). Blair got into 30-points club by scoring 35 points in the last round. He went also for six rebounds and nine assists. He was another key player of Al Wakrah, helping his team with a 96-80 easy win against the lower-ranked Al Sadd (#9, 4-12). The chances of Al Wakrah not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 10 games, recording just six victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Blair could try to bring Al Wakrah's a little bit higher in the standings. Blair has individually a great season in Qatar. After only 8 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 27.5ppg (5th best) and assists with 8.6apg (best passer).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Sammy Monroe (198-F-85) of Al Gharafa - 30 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists
5. Marcus Bell (206-C-90) of Al Rayyan - 22 points, 22 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Olatunbo Ayeni (196-F-87) of Al Wakrah - 33 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists
7. Vernon Macklin (208-F/C-86) of El Jaysh - 26 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists
8. Quinton Doggett (206-F-90) of Qatar Club - 32 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Larry Blair (183-G-84) of Al Wakrah - 22 points, 7 rebounds and 17 assists
10. Jamal Shabazz (198-G-94) of Al Rayyan - 31 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Stover shines as Arabi sweep past Al Khor - 5 days ago
Nick Stover (198-F-93, college: S.Alabama) almost single-handedly swept Al Arabi into the semi-finals of the Emir Cup basketball tournament, his 42-point effort proving too much for Al Khor at the Al Gharafa Sports Club yesterday. Such was Nick Stover's domination that the second-best scorer in the Al Arabi side was Khalid Suliman Abdi with 16, while none of the others managed double figures in their 80-63 victory.
