Sammy Monroe
Experienced American Sammy Monroe (198-F-85) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's second-best Al Gharafa and that's him to receive a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 26.
The 31-year old forward had a double-double of 37 points and fifteen rebounds, while his team beat Al Khor (#10, 2-12) 83-70. Al Gharafa maintains the 2nd position in Qatari D1. Al Gharafa has a very good season and are considered to have a run for the championship title. They improved their record to 14-1. In the team's last game Monroe had a remarkable 65.0% from 2-point range. He turned to be Al Gharafa's top player in his first season with the team. Sammy Monroe averages this season 23.1ppg, 9.2rpg and 4.5apg. Worth to mention Monroe played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 32-year old American guard Larry Blair (183-G-84) of Al Wakrah. Blair impressed basketball fans with 36 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists. Of course Al Wakrah cruised to a 92-82 relatively comfortable win over slightly higher-ranked Al Ahli (#6, 5-9). This victory allowed Al Wakrah to move up to 7th position in the standings. 10 lost games are too many comparing to just four victories Al Wakrah managed to get this year. Blair is one of the most experienced players at Al Wakrah and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 28.3ppg (#3). His other stats are also decent: 6.0rpg and 7.4apg.

The third best performed player last round was American Dairese Gary (185-PG-88) of Al Khor (#10). Gary got into 30-points club by scoring 37 points in the last round. He went also for nine rebounds and six assists. Despite Gary's great performance Al Khor lost 70-83 to the higher-ranked Al Gharafa (#2, 14-1). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Al Khor can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have extremely bad season and 2-12 record places them at the very bottom of the standings. Too bad for Gary he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Gary has individually a great season in Qatar. After 14 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in assists with 6.0apg (5th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Oumar Seck (208-C-88) of Al Sadd - 29 points, 21 rebounds and 6 assists
5. AJ West (206-F-91) of Al Sadd - 30 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Marcus Bell (206-C-90) of Al Rayyan - 20 points, 18 rebounds and 7 assists
7. Elhag Ali Saleh (191-G) of Al Shamal - 26 points, 15 rebounds and 3 assists
8. Manny Adako (203-F/C-87) of Al Arabi - 21 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists
9. AJ West (206-F-91) of Al Sadd - 32 points and 14 rebounds
10. Mohd Mohamed Yousef (204-C-82) of El Jaysh - 13 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
