American Quinton Doggett (206-F-90) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Qatar Club and that's him to receive a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 23.
The 26-year old forward had the game-high 26 points adding nine rebounds for Qatar Club in his team's victory, helping them to beat Al Ahli (#6, 4-6) 68-62. Qatar Club is placed at 5th position in Qatari D1. Qatar Club is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 5-5 record. In the team's last game Doggett had a remarkable 58.8% from 2-point range. He turned to be Qatar Club's top player in his first season with the team. Southern University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Doggett is in league's top in points (4th best: 27.0ppg), rebounds (4th best: 13.3rpg) and averages solid 60.7% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 30-year old American Raymond Sykes (206-C/F-86, agency: Three Eye Sports) of Al Sadd. Sykes impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 22 points and 20 rebounds. Bad luck as Al Sadd lost that game 51-80 to the higher-ranked Al Arabi (#3, 7-3). Al Sadd is still second from the bottom in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 3-7 record. Sykes is a newcomer at Al Sadd and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was Ndoye Seydou Elhadj of Al Ahli (#6). Seydou Elhadj scored 25 points and grabbed fifteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Seydou Elhadj's great performance Al Ahli lost 62-68 to slightly higher-ranked Qatar Club (#5, 5-5). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Al Ahli ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 6 games, recording just four victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Seydou Elhadj could help Al Ahli to bring them higher in the standings. Seydou Elhadj has a very solid season. In 9 games in Qatar he scored 16.1ppg. He also has 8.1rpg and FGP: 64.9%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Manny Adako (203-F/C-87) of Al Arabi - 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists
5. Mame Souleye (206-C-87) of Al Arabi - 19 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists
6. AJ West (206-F-91) of Al Sadd - 13 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists
7. Gueye Momar Talla) of Al Arabi - 17 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists
8. James Justice (178-PG-89) of Qatar Club - 16 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists
9. Branko Jereminov (186-PG-87) of Al Ahli - 13 points, 4 rebounds and 9 assists
10. Adamu Saaka (198-SF-88) of Al Arabi - 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Olatunbo Ayeni (196-F-87, college: St.Francis, NY) was in a zone all of his own as he powered Al Wakrah to an emphatic 97-73 win over Al Ahli in the Emir cup basketball tournament last evening. His match-high 40 points in the Group A match snuffed the fight out of Al Ahli as Al Wakrah completed a dominating performance as the tournament heads towards the quarter-finals. Al Wakrah made a brisk start and had established a 29-11 advantage by the end of the first 10 minutes. They kept on pili...   [read more]

Gharafa thrash Qatar SC, Arabi edge out Shamal - 12 days ago
Gharafa continued their impressive showing in local basketball by thrashing Qatar Sports Club 102-74 in the Emir Cup yesterday. After narrowly missing out on the league title to El Jaish, Al Gharafa had made amends by winning the Qatar Cup in March and now look poised for a domestic double as the season heads towards its close. Yesterday, Al Gharafa were in great scoring form with Abdulrahman Saad (185-G/F-96)'s 23 points anchoring them to a commanding victory. As many as four other Al Gh...   [read more]
