Marcel
Anderson
American Point guard Marcel Anderson (183-PG-86) put on an amazing game in the last round for Al Rayyan, receiving a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 22.
The 30-year old player was the main contributor (37 points, six rebounds and eight assists) to his team's victory, helping them to outclass Al Sadd (#8, 3-7) with 51-point margin 110-59. Al Rayyan maintains the 4th position in Qatari D1. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Al Rayyan will need more victories to improve their 6-3 record. In the team's last game Anderson had a remarkable 72.2% from 2-point range. He turned to be Al Rayyan's top player in his first season with the team. Former Harris-Stowe State University star has very solid stats this year. Anderson is in league's top in points (6th best: 25.2ppg), assists (6th best: 5.4apg) and averages impressive 2.6spg and 51.5% FGP. Worth to mention Anderson played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

The second best player in last round's games was another Al Rayyan's star - young international forward Abdelrahman Abdelhaleem (205-F-96). Abdelhaleem had a very good evening with a double-double of 28 points and 13 rebounds. Of course together with Anderson he helped Al Rayyan with another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Al Sadd (#8, 3-7) 110-59. Al Rayyan's 4th position in the standings has not changed. His team's 6-3 record is not bad at all. Abdelhaleem is one of the most experienced players at Al Rayyan and similarly like Marcel Anderson has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third on the list of top players last round was another Al Rayyan's star - American center Marcus Bell (206-C-90). Bell scored 20 points and grabbed five rebounds. He was another key player of Al Rayyan, helping his team with a 110-59 easy win against the lower-ranked Al Sadd (#8, 3-7). Al Rayyan needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 6 victories and 3 lost games. Bell has a great season in Qatar. After only 9 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 13.7rpg (2nd best). He also has 1.2bpg and FGP: 68.3%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Mohd Hassan Mohamed (191-G/F-91) of Al Rayyan - 14 points and 3 rebounds
5. Abdullah Matalkeh (203-C-91) of Al Rayyan - 6 points and 5 rebounds
6. Omar Nasser Al-Khanji (175-PG-93) of Al Rayyan - 5 points, 2 rebounds and 6 assists
7. Raymond Sykes (206-C/F-86) of Al Sadd - 6 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists
8. Omar Saad) of Al Sadd - 18 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists
9. Khalid Abdi (198-G/F-87) of Al Sadd - 10 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists
10. Mohamed Gameil Abed (195-PF-97) of Al Sadd - 4 points and 5 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Stover shines as Arabi sweep past Al Khor - 5 days ago
Nick Stover (198-F-93, college: S.Alabama) almost single-handedly swept Al Arabi into the semi-finals of the Emir Cup basketball tournament, his 42-point effort proving too much for Al Khor at the Al Gharafa Sports Club yesterday. Such was Nick Stover's domination that the second-best scorer in the Al Arabi side was Khalid Suliman Abdi with 16, while none of the others managed double figures in their 80-63 victory. Of his 42 points, 15 came from the three-point mark as Al Arabi dominated...   [read more]
