American center Michael Southall (210-C-82) had a very impressive game in the last round for Al Sadd, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 15.
The 30-year old player had a double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds, while his team outclassed Al Shamal (#8, 2-11) with 28-point margin 80-52. Al Sadd is placed at 3rd position in Qatari D1. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Al Sadd will need more victories to improve their 10-3 record. It's Southall's second year at Al Sadd and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Former University Louisiana at Lafayette star has very solid stats this year. Southall is in league's top in rebounds (6th best: 10.8rpg) and averages impressive 2.6bpg and 62.3% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 27-year old American William Byrd (201-G/F-85) of Al Arabi. Byrd had a very good evening with a double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds. Of course he lead Al Arabi to another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Qatar (#7, 3-10) 93-70. Al Arabi's 4th position in the standings has not changed. His team's 10-3 record is not bad at all. Byrd is well-known at Al Arabi and is a proven leader in his second season with the team. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 18.5ppg (#6). He also registered 13.5 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was another Al Arabi's star - American forward Alvin Mofunanya (203-F-87, agency: Dream Team Management). Mofunanya showcased his all-around game by recording 20 points, fourteen rebounds (!!!) and seven assists in the last round. He was another key player of Al Arabi, helping his team with a 93-70 easy win against the lower-ranked Qatar (#7, 3-10). Al Arabi needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 10 victories and 3 lost games. Mofunanya has a great season in Qatar. After 13 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.1ppg (9th best) and rebounds with 14.3rpg (2nd best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Gaston Moliva (202-F-85) of Qatar - 22 points, 13 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Mansour El Hadary (177-PG-90) of Al Arabi - 21 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Chauncey Leslie (183-G/F-81) of Qatar - 30 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists
7. Kayode Ayeni (196-F-87) of Al Wakrah - 17 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Boney Watson (183-PG-78) of Al Rayyan - 18 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Baker Ahmad Mohammed (199-F-86) of Al Jaysh - 14 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists
10. Ibrahima Thomas (210-F-87) of Al Sadd - 17 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
