El Jaish squandered a 10-point lead posted early in the final period but held off Al Sadd in the dying minutes to escape with a slim 65-64 victory in last nights match of the Qatar Mens League held at the Al Rayyan Indoor Arena.
Army seemed on their way to bagging an easy upset of Al Sadd when they led 61-51 with 8:51 left in the game but Michael Southall (210-C-82, college: La-Lafayette) spearheaded a 12-2 assault in the next five minutes to bring the game to its first deadlock at 63-all and send jitters to their rivals going into the last 3 minutes of the match.
Both teams went blank in the ensuing exchanges with El Jaish managing to get a point from the stripe off a foul by Michael Southall on Steve Noubisse, as Army took a solitary point lead with 1:37 to go.
Al Sadd missed their chance in the next possession missing on several attempts and losing the ball in the last 13 seconds to bow out of the contest.
Mohammad Yussuf, who led all scorers with 19 points, sealed the win with another point from the charity lane.
El Jaish and Al Sadd are now deadlocked in the standings with 9-3 win-loss card.

Cage has played also professionally in Cyprus, Iraq (Duhok), Iran (BEEM), Mexico (Halcones Rojos), Philippines (Global Port), Saudi Arabia (Uhud) and Lebanon (Feytroun). Al Sadd triumphs at Arabian Gulf Basketball Clubs Championship 2013. The team from Qatar lost only one game at the campaign and sealed the title.
The team from Qatar started the tournament with the win against Kazma from Kuwait 73:55. In Day 2 Uhud from Saudi Arabia overcame Al Sadd 92:89. The latter finished the group with 2-1 record on the first place after a 89:73 win over ahli sadab from Oman.
