Michael
Southall
30-year old center Michael Southall (210-C-82) put on an amazing game in the last round for second-ranked Al Sadd and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 7.
He had a double-double of 25 points and 16 rebounds, while his team outclassed, the league's bottom-ranked team Al Ahli (#8, 0-6) with 35-point margin 79-44. Al Sadd maintains the 2nd position in Qatari league. They maintain perfect record without any lost game in the league. The season is still on an early stage, but Al Sadd already had a very good start winning all 6 without losing a single one. It's Southall's second year at Al Sadd and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Michael Southall averages this season 13.6ppg and 8.0rpg.

Second best performed player last round was William Byrd (201-G/F-85) of Al Arabi. He is American swingman in his 2nd season at Al Arabi. In the last game Byrd recorded impressive double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds. Bad luck as Al Arabi was edged by slightly higher-ranked Al Jaysh (5-2) 73-71. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Al Arabi still maintains its place in the top 4 of the standings, even despite this loss. His team's 5-2 record is not bad at all. Byrd is well-known at Al Arabi and he already established his position as one of the team's leaders.

Third place about best performers goes to swingman Chauncey Leslie (183-G/F-81) of Qatar (#6). Leslie got into 30-points club by scoring exactly 30 points in the last round. He went also for eight rebounds and eight assists. He was a key player of Qatar, leading his team to a 79-73 win against slightly lower-ranked Al Shamal (#7, 1-5). The chances of Qatar not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 4 games, recording just two victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Leslie could try to bring Qatar's a little bit higher in the standings. Leslie has individually a great season in Qatar. After only 4 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 21.8ppg (3rd best) and assists with 5.0apg (8th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Mezie Nwigwe (193-G-88) of Al Shamal - 34 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists
5. Oumar Seck) of Qatar - 21 points, 19 rebounds and 5 assists
6. Gaston Moliva (202-F-85) of Qatar - 16 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Omar Abdelkader (206-C-83) of Al Gharafa - 20 points and 11 rebounds
8. Johann Mpondo (203-F-88) of Al Sadd - 13 points, 13 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Alvin Mofunanya (203-F-87) of Al Arabi - 12 points, 17 rebounds and 3 assists
10. Fadi Abilmoni Hani (184-PG) of Al Jaysh - 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

D1 Round 10: Al Gharafa beats Al Sadd in a derby game - 7 days ago
The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Doha: Al Gharafa (#2) and Al Sadd (#7). Al Sadd was smashed at home by 21 points 62-83 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Al Sadd. The guests trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 83-62.
