Fadi Abilmona pumped his team up on both ends of the floor carrying the scoring cudgels with 35 big points, collared 6 rebounds and swiped the ball 4 times as El Jaish scored a 92-60 blow-out of Al Wakrah last night in the Qatar Mens League at the Al Gharafa Indoor Arena.
Fadi added 10 to his 24-point output after three periods in Armys 29-15 wind-up to cap a splendid 9 of 12 clip from beyond the arc.
El Jaish took their fourth win in five games and just half a game behind current leaders Al Sadd and Al Rayyan, with 4-0. Wakrah languish in the cellar at 0-5.
In the main game, Al Rayyan kept their winning streak to four as they humbled Al Ahli, 103-54.
Al Ahli , visibly affected by the absence of ace-point guard Ryan Synord Brock found it difficult to execute their offense at the start of the game and fell prey to the defending champions merciless assault as they got buried 10-30 at the end of the first period.
And to compound Al Ahlis woes, national team mainstay Tanguy Ngombo (197-F-84) rejoined the Rayyan fold and chipped in 9 of his teams 21-points in the second period to announce his comeback as the defending champions raced to a 51-20 advantage before the halftime break.
Yaseen Mousa and Erfan Saeed then combined for a 15-6 run early in the third before Tanguy Ngombo got fielded back in to take part in a 15-12 roll to seal a 43-point lead ending the period.
Coach Brian Rowsom and his wards are locked on top of the team standings with Al Sadd.
In the Pinoy Basketball Qatar (PBAQ) League match, team Powerhorse unleashed a running offensive in the fourth quarter to squash a third quarter deficit and belch away with an 80-70 come from behind win over the Jewelers.
Leading the win for the energy-boosters who trailed for the first three periods were slotman Tiongson with 23 and the lanky forward Guerrero with 20.
Games continue at the Al Gharafa Indoor Arena tomorrow as Al Gharafa test Qatar Sports Club 5:00 pm and Al Arabi battle Al Shamal in the main game at 7:00 pm. Courtesy of: http://www.qatarbasketball.qa
