Bahrain - Qatar 64:74

Qatar defended their Gulf Cup title. They overcame Bahrain to celebrate the fifth straight title in Manama. Boney Watson (183-PG-78, college: Sam Houston St.) came up with 20 points to lead the visitors.
Qatar earned a 20:15 lead after ten minutes of action. They maintained it throughout the second frame. Qatar secured a 38:31 halftime advantage. They boosted the margin in the third term. The visitors entered the fourth frame up by 9 points. Bahrain failed to turn things around in the final period and had to surrender at the end. Erfan Ali (198-PF-83) notched 16 points, while Yasseen Ismail (204-F/C-80) had 12 points for Qatar. Mohammed Hassan (194-F/G-80) answered with 18 points for Bahrain. Bader Abdulla Malabes (87) and Chester Giles (211-F/C-85, college: Oregon St.) netted 15 and 13 points respectively in defeat.

Pioneros de Los Mochis (CIBACOPA) strengthened their roster with addition of 29-year old American guard Nick Murphy (193-98kg-88, college: Jacksonville State). He played recently at Al Gharafa in Qatari D1 league. In 2011 Murphy was drafted by Iowa Energy (D-League) in fourth round (7th overall). Olatunbo Ayeni (196-F-87, college: St.Francis, NY) was in a zone all of his own as he powered Al Wakrah to an emphatic 97-73 win over Al Ahli in the Emir cup basketball tournament last evening. His match-high 40 points in the Group A match snuffed the fight out of Al Ahli as Al Wakrah completed a dominating performance as the tournament heads towards the quarter-finals. Ayeni Olatokunbo scored a match-high 32 points to help Al Wakrah post a convincing 84-63 win over Al Sadd in the Emir Cup last evening.
