Qatar registered the second straight win at the Arabian Gulf Cup in Manama. They prevailed against UAE. Qatar stay perfect after two games played at the tournament. UAE slipped at 1-2 record. Qatar led by just four points 21:17 after ten minutes but managed to boost the lead in the second frame. They accumulated a 42:31 halftime lead. Qatar entered the fourth frame up by 11 points and did not allow their opponents to get any closer in the final minutes. Qatar will take on Oman tonight. UAE will face Saudi Arabia looking for the second victory at the tournament. Qatar will play versus Bahrain on Saturday in what could be decisive battle at the tournament.

Al Arabi and Al Wakrah marched into the final of the Emir Cup basketball tournament yesterday. At the Gharafa Sports Club, Nick Stover (198-F-93, college: S.Alabama) scored 33 points and dished five assists as Al Arabi defeated Al Shamal 96-79 in the first semi-final. Arabi took the first quarter honours leading 20-19, but Arabi fought back to edge ahead 51-39 at the end of the second period. Arabi, however, came up with 16 points in the third quarter while restricting their rivals to just eight points to take an eight-point advantage into the final quarter. Nick Stover also excelled from three-pointer mark, drilling three out of five attempts. Khalid Sulaimen Abdi and William Byrd (201-G/F-85, college: Ark.-Pine Bluff) with 23 and 19 points respectively also excelled for the winners. For Al Shamal, Matthew Bryan-Amaning (205-F-88, college: Washington) scored 28 points and Dominic James (180-PG-86, college: Marquette) netted 18 points to take them to the second final since 2001, where they lost to Al Rayyan. Later in the evening, Wakrah defeated defending champions Al Gharafa 87-76 in the second semifinal with the help of a fine 32-point effort by Ali Saeed Erfan (198-PF-83). Gharafa took six points (26-20) lead at the end of the first quarter and later maintained the three-point advantage till the third quarter. Wakrah came back strongly in the fourth to first tie the game at 67-67 and later won it with 14 points. Earnest Ross (196-G-91, college: Missouri, agency: MKP Management) Junior also contributed 19 points for the winners, while Todd O'Brien (211-C-89, college: UAB) scored 23 points for Gharafa. Al Gharafa and Al Shamal had advanced to the semi-finals with almost identical wins over Al Rayyan and Al Ahli respectively. Al Gharafa saw off Al Rayyan 92-83, while Hrvoje Pulijko excelled with 34 for Al Shamal as they edged out Al Ahli 91-84 on last Friday. The final will be played on Saturday, 21 April at 6:30pm. Nick Stover (198-F-93, college: S.Alabama) almost single-handedly swept Al Arabi into the semi-finals of the Emir Cup basketball tournament, his 42-point effort proving too much for Al Khor at the Al Gharafa Sports Club yesterday. Such was Nick Stover's domination that the second-best scorer in the Al Arabi side was Khalid Suliman Abdi with 16, while none of the others managed double figures in their 80-63 victory. Of his 42 points, 15 came from the three-point mark as Al Arabi dominated throughout, never allowing their rivals to mount a challenge. Al Arabi led 19-9 after the first 10 minutes and 40-29 at the end of the second. At one point they held a 25-point lead (80-25), leaving Al Khor with a mountain to climb. For Al Khor, Dominique Lacy (201-F-89, college: NC-Wilmington) was the top scorer with 23, while Khobi Williamson (201-C-92, college: Hampden-Sydney) had 13. In another quarter-final match, Al Wakrah eased past Al Sadd 72-63 with Demarius Bolds (193-G-84, college: Missouri Western)' 29 points the top score for the winners. Despite the margin of victory being only nine points, it was Al Wakrah who were ahead throughout the match. Al Wakrah led 28-8 after the first quarter, and although Al Sadd put up a good fight in the second, scoring 25 points, they couldn't sustain the momentum. Bolds scored 12 points from the three-point mark, and he was well supported by Adamu Saaka and Erfan Ali Saeed who contributed 14 and 11, respectively. The last summer Jones played at Rams in New Zealand NBL where in 19 games he was second best scorer with remarkable 21.7ppg and recorded 8.8rpg (#5 in the league) and 2.8apg. Jones helped them to make it to the semifinals. A very good season in his career as he was awarded Australiabasket.com All-New Zealand NBL Forward of the Year, selected to 1st Team and selected to All-Domestic Players Team. The former Oregon State staris in his tenth season in pro basketball.
