Taiwan edge Qatar in a thriller at the 2012 Fiba Asia Cup. Taiwan grabbed 75:73 win to finish the group with 2-2 record on the third place. Qatar meanwhile ended up with 1-3 record on the fourth position.
Qatar won the first period 22-17 but led only 1 point at the halftime as Taiwan needed 18-14 to reduce the score. Moreover Taiwan grabbed the lead after 18-15 in the third quarter and had 53:51 advantage. Both teams scored 22 points in the last stanza for the final result. Tien Lei (202-F-83) made the final dunk with 1 second to go to give his side the necessary win.
Tseng Wen-Ting (203-F/C-84) top-scored for the winners with 17 points and Chen Shih-Chieh (176-G-84) as well as Wu Tai-Hao (203-F/C-85, college: BYU-Hawaii) posted 15 each. Tien Lei followed them with 11 points in the winning effort. Erfan Ali (198-PF-83) posted 17 points in defeat and Clinton Fihnoir Johnson (193-G-84) had 15. Baker Ahmad (199-F-86) nailed 12, while Omar Abdelkader (206-C-83) notched 7.

American Sherwood Brown (193-G-91) put on an amazing game in the last round for Al Rayyan and that's him to receive a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 2. The 26-year old guard had the game-high 30 points adding nine rebounds and seven assists for Al Rayyan in his team's victory, helping them to crush Al Ahli (1-1) with 16-point margin 97-81. There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in D1. The biggest surprise of round 2 in D1 took place in Doha where host Al Rayyan (1-1) beat Al Ahli (1-1) 97-81 on Wednesday evening. Al Rayyan looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists.
