Qatar posted the first win at the Fiba Asia Cup in Tokyo. They held off India to improve at 1-1 record in Group B. Mohammed Yousef (204-C-82) scored 13 points to lead the winners.
Qatar limited India to just 6 points in the starting quarter and gained a 9-point lead. India did not allow their opponents to clear off in the second quarter. India cut the deficit at 6-point mark at the interval 25:31. Qatar increased the tempo in the third term. They capitalized firing 27 points and opening a 14-point advantage at the final break. Qatar did not look in the fourth quarter and rallied to the victory. Omar Abdelkader (206-C-83) posted 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Yasseen Ismail (204-F/C-80) added 12 points for Qatar. Narender Kumar (195-G/F-88) and Pethani Rikin (206-C-90) answered with 14 points each for India.

Larre Borges Montevideo (Metro) added to their roster 31-year old American power forward Raymond Sykes (206-100kg-86, college: Clemson, agency: 3Eye). He played last season at played at Al Sadd in Qatari D1 league, but left. In 7 games he recorded 14.6ppg, 9.0rpg, 2.4apg and 1.7bpg. The previous (15-16) season Sykes played at Hapoel Beer Sheva (National League) in Israel where in 5 games he averaged impressive 16.6ppg, 10.4rpg, 2.0apg and 2.0bpg.
