Al Wasl to face Al Rayyan at the GCC Clubs Basketball Championship Semifinal that will be played on May 8th in Bahrain. The team from the United Arab Emirates finished second with 1-2 record and managed to grab the last ticket to the semis. Al Rayyan advanced to Final Four of 32nd GCC Clubs Basketball Championship as they won the first two games and clinched the top place in Group A. The most important victory for Al Wasl was over Al-Ittihad from Saudi Arabia 76:60. The first quarter ended 28-20 for Al Wasl, who maintained momentum to clinch a 48-27 lead at half-time. Al Wasl also won the third period 20-16 and captured the victory by 16 points. Al Rayyans important victory was over Muharraq 85:83. Pony Harold brought the last points for the winners in the game. Muharraq started the game on a high note, taking a 29:27 lead and enjoyed 48:46 lead at the halftime. Al Rayyan meanwhile won the third period 24-21 and then managed to grab 2-point victory. Tany Alba top-scored for the winners with 22 points and Yasseen Ismail (204-F/C-80) netted 19. Clark Ira (203-C/F-75, college: Texas) replied with 19 points in the losing effort.
Al Shabab Dubai (D1) agreed terms with 32-year old American swingman Chauncey Leslie (183-81, college: Iowa). He started the season at Qatar in Qatari D1 league. Leslie was also voted Eurobasket.com All-Hungarian League Guard of the Year back in 2007. He is quite experienced player. Leslie has played also professionally in Austria, France (JA Vichy), Germany (New Yorker Phantoms and Mitteldeutscher BC), Syria (Al Karameh), UAE, Hungary (Kormend), Egypt (Al Ittihad and Sporting) and United Arab Emirates (An Nasr and Sharjah). He attended University of Iowa until 2003 and it is his tenth season as a professional player. The last (2011) season Cage played at Hoops Club (Division A) in Lebanese league. In 26 games he was fourth best scorer with impressive 22.8ppg and had 3.2rpg, 2.7apg and 1.2spg. Great season indeed as he was voted to PMA Basketball Asia-Basket.com All-Lebanese League Honorable Mention. He is a very experienced player. Cage has played also professionally in Cyprus, Iraq (Duhok), Iran (BEEM), Mexico (Halcones Rojos), Philippines (Global Port), Saudi Arabia (Uhud) and Lebanon (Feytroun). Al Sadd triumphs at Arabian Gulf Basketball Clubs Championship 2013. The team from Qatar lost only one game at the campaign and sealed the title.
The team from Qatar started the tournament with the win against Kazma from Kuwait 73:55. In Day 2 Uhud from Saudi Arabia overcame Al Sadd 92:89. The latter finished the group with 2-1 record on the first place after a 89:73 win over ahli sadab from Oman.
