Rhodes
Experienced American Charles Rhodes (203-F/C-85) had a very impressive game in the last round for SM Beermen and that's him to receive a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 5.
The 31-year old power forward had a double-double of 20 points and eighteen rebounds, while his team outclassed Mahindra (#11, 1-6) with 29-point margin 109-80. SM Beermen is placed at 7th position in Filipino PBA. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost that single game earlier this season. SM Beermen will need more victories to improve their 3-1 record. In the team's last game Rhodes had a remarkable 100.0% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at SM Beermen, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Mississippi State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Rhodes is in league's top in points (9th best: 23.3ppg) and averages solid 1.3bpg and 68.6% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 24-year old American power forward Jameel McKay (206-F/C-92) of Phoenix. McKay impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 27 points and 18 rebounds. Bad luck as Phoenix was edged by the higher-ranked Rain or Shine (#4, 4-2) 96-94. This loss caused Phoenix to drop to 8th position in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 3-3 record is not bad and everything may still change. McKay is one of the most experienced players at Phoenix and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 25.6ppg (#6). He also registered 18.6 boards per game.

The third best performed player last round was American Greg Smith (208-C-91) of Blackwater (#10). Smith showcased his all-around game by recording 19 points, fourteen rebounds (!!!) and seven assists in the last round. Despite Smith's great performance Blackwater lost 91-103 to the higher-ranked Meralco Bolts (#1, 6-1). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Blackwater can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-5 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Smith he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Smith has individually a great season in Philippines. After only 5 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 28.8ppg (3rd best), rebounds with 19.8rpg (2nd best) and assists with 4.4apg (9th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Wayne Chism (206-PF-87) of NLEX RW - 29 points, 14 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Alex Cabagnot (183-G-82) of SM Beermen - 26 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists
6. Shawn Taggart (207-F-85) of Rain or Shine - 20 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists
7. Tony Mitchell (203-F-92) of Star Hotshots - 22 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Malcolm White (205-C/F-88) of Globalport - 23 points, 16 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Alex Stepheson (208-F/C-87) of Meralco Bolts - 18 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists
10. Justin Brownlee (197-F-88) of B.Ginebra - 18 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Ginebra takes 2-0 lead over Meralco in Govs' Cup finals - 5 days ago
